About this role

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on supporting the design, development, and execution of low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position plays a key role in meeting growing customer demand, reducing engineering backlog, and modernizing legacy engineering documentation. You will create and maintain 3D models and assemblies, produce detailed manufacturing drawings, manage bills of material, and release production-ready designs that comply with industry standards and customer requirements. The role is ideal for an engineer with experience in switchgear, power distribution equipment, or related industrial electrical products who can quickly contribute in a production-focused engineering environment. Responsibilities

- Design and develop mechanical assemblies and components for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear products.
- Create and maintain 3D SolidWorks models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings for production use.
- Convert legacy 2D engineering drawings, scans, PDFs, and AutoCAD files into fully developed 3D models and assemblies.
- Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) within ERP/MRP systems to support manufacturing and purchasing.
- Interpret customer-approved submittal packages and translate requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs.
- Design switchgear enclosures, mounting structures, support components, and mechanical layouts for power distribution equipment.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Production, Purchasing, and Engineering teams to support project execution and on-time product delivery.
- Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including drawing revisions and documentation updates, to keep product information current.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical and mechanical industry standards and relevant codes.
- Troubleshoot design-related manufacturing issues and provide corrective engineering solutions to improve build quality and efficiency.
- Contribute to engineering standardization efforts and continuous improvement initiatives across product lines.
- Cross-train between different product lines to support fluctuating project demands and resource needs.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 2 years of SolidWorks experience, including creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
- Experience creating engineering drawings and mechanical assemblies for production.
- Experience generating and maintaining Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Experience supporting products through manufacturing release and into production.
- Proficiency in mechanical design for industrial fabrication and manufacturing.
- Ability to design mechanical components for manufacturing using SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with low-voltage and medium-voltage systems and products.
- Understanding of switchgear and power distribution equipment design.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards such as NEC, NFPA, and ANSI.
- Ability to design busbar and bus bar systems, mounting structures, enclosures, electrical enclosures, control cabinets, and weldments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with AutoCAD for working with legacy 2D drawings and documentation.
- Experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design and fabrication.
- Experience with low-voltage and/or medium-voltage switchgear products.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP/MRP systems for BOM and production management.
- Experience working within UL and NEC compliance environments.
- in sheet metal design and industrial fabrication.
- Experience with switchgear design, control cabinet design, and electrical enclosure design.
- Ability to work effectively in a production-focused engineering environment with large, complex projects.
- Interest in contributing to a growing organization with a strong project backlog and opportunities for cross-training.

Work Environment The role is based within a power distribution equipment manufacturing environment that focuses on low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in Manufacturing, Production, Purchasing, and Engineering to deliver large, complex projects. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, with modern CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD, and ERP/MRP systems like SAP used to manage designs and Bills of Material. The company is experiencing significant growth, handling large projects and maintaining a substantial work backlog, providing ongoing opportunities to support multiple product lines and participate in continuous improvement and standardization initiatives.
