About this role
Aston Carter's large client in Burnaby is seeking a Project Accountant to join their team! This role focuses on executing and coordinating finance-related testing activities for a major cloud migration initiative. You will validate end-to-end accounting and reporting processes across multiple systems, support Business Acceptance Testing and System Integration Testing, and ensure that financial outputs remain accurate and controlled throughout the transition. Alongside project work, you will also perform regular accounting tasks during periods of lower testing demand, contributing directly to both system transformation and day-to-day finance operations. Key Responsibilities
- Execute and coordinate finance-related Business Acceptance Testing (BAT) activities for the cloud migration project, ensuring that finance requirements and accounting controls are thoroughly tested.
- Participate in System Integration Testing (SIT) and regression testing to validate how accounting and reporting processes perform across interconnected platforms.
- Validate end-to-end accounting and reporting processes across systems, including interfaces, reports, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial outputs.
- Review test cases and expected outcomes to confirm that finance requirements, accounting controls, reporting needs, and existing functionality are adequately covered.
- Identify, document, and retest defects and variances, partnering with Information Services, project teams, and vendors to support root cause analysis and timely resolution.
- Maintain comprehensive testing documentation, including test scenarios, defect logs, retest results, regression outcomes, and issue tracking to support project governance and decision-making.
- Update testing trackers, reconciliation schedules, defect logs, and status reports to provide clear visibility into testing progress and outstanding issues.
- Validate finance reports, dashboards, data extracts, and system interfaces to ensure outputs are accurate, complete, and aligned with accounting requirements.
- Support dress rehearsals, cutover activities, and go-live readiness by validating accounting processes and financial results in the new cloud environment.
- Contribute to analysis related to migration testing results, cutover planning, blackout periods, and post-deployment stabilization activities.
- Help drive continuous improvement in testing practices, documentation standards, defect management, and controls over finance-related system changes.
- Perform regular accounting tasks, including full cycle accounting activities, as required during periods of lower project testing demand.
- Prepare and review month-end and quarter-end financial statements, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis, as part of full cycle accounting responsibilities.
- Collaborate closely with insurance accountants and cross-functional project teams to ensure alignment between operational accounting and system changes.
- Communicate testing issues, risks, and findings clearly and professionally, including escalation and articulation of key issues to leaders when required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications MUST HAVES
- 2+ years full cycle accounting experience - month end, quarter end, financial statement prep, variance analysis.
- 3+ years of experience supporting system testing, Business Acceptance Testing (BAT), System Integration Testing (SIT), and regression testing within enterprise system implementations.
