About this role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and
maintenance of mechanical systems within mission-critical data center facilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the reliability, availability, efficiency, and performance of critical
mechanical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, chilled water systems, cooling towers, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units,
pumps, heat exchangers, ventilation systems, and associated controls.
The engineer will work closely with electrical, controls/BMS, civil, structural, IT, commissioning, operations, and
construction teams to ensure reliable operation of the data center.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Engineering
• Review and develop mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation for
data center facilities.
• Design and review HVAC and cooling systems for mission-critical environments.
• Perform cooling-load calculations and equipment capacity assessments.
• Review chilled water distribution systems, including chillers, pumps, piping, valves, heat exchangers, and
associated equipment.
• Review air-side systems including CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, ventilation systems, ductwork, dampers, and air
distribution.
• Review equipment sizing, redundancy, capacity, diversity, and operational requirements.
• Evaluate mechanical systems based on reliability, maintainability, energy efficiency, and operational resilience.
• Review mechanical single-line diagrams, P&IDs, schematics, equipment layouts, and control sequences.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable international and local codes and standards.
Critical Cooling Systems
• Provide engineering support for chillers, cooling towers, dry coolers, heat exchangers, CRAH/CRAC units,
pumps, and chilled water systems.
• Ensure appropriate redundancy configurations such as N+1, 2N, and distributed-redundant systems, where
required.
• Review cooling capacity against current and future IT loads.
• Monitor chilled-water supply/return temperatures, flow rates, differential pressure, and equipment
performance.
• Support optimization of cooling systems to improve energy efficiency and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
• Review failure scenarios and ensure cooling systems maintain required environmental conditions during
equipment outages.
Construction & Installation
• Monitor mechanical installation activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications,
method statements, and project requirements.
• Inspect installation of chillers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, AHUs, piping, valves, ductwork,
insulation, and mechanical equipment.
• Review equipment and material submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, method statements, and technical
documentation.
• Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, architectural, structural, controls, and other MEP disciplines.
• Identify construction issues and provide engineering solutions.
• Verify equipment installation, alignment, access, maintainability, and service clearances.
Testing & Commissioning
• Support pre-commissioning, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Review and witness FAT, SAT, equipment testing, functional performance testing, and integrated systems
testing.
• Participate in commissioning of chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, heat exchangers, and
associated control systems.
• Verify chilled water flow, temperature, pressure, and equipment performance.
• Review and test mechanical control sequences and failure scenarios.
• Participate in integrated testing of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Support simulated failure testing of redundant cooling systems.
• Review commissioning reports, test results, deficiencies, and punch lists.
Operations & Maintenance
• Support operation and maintenance of critical mechanical infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot HVAC and cooling system failures.
• Analyze equipment alarms, temperature deviations, flow issues, pressure problems, and other mechanical
abnormalities.
• Support root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
• Review preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Maintenance Procedures (MOPs), and Emergency
Operating Procedures (EOPs).
• Monitor mechanical equipment performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Support capacity planning and mechanical infrastructure upgrades.
• Maintain accurate equipment records, drawings, specifications, and maintenance documentation.
BMS & Controls
• Coordinate with BMS/Controls engineers to ensure proper monitoring and control of mechanical systems.
• Review mechanical control sequences and points lists.
• Verify alarms, setpoints, interlocks, equipment status, and operating sequences.
• Monitor critical parameters through BMS/EPMS and other facility monitoring systems.
• Support development and testing of automatic changeover and failure-response sequences.
Energy Efficiency
• Monitor mechanical system energy consumption and operating efficiency.
• Support initiatives to reduce cooling energy consumption and improve PUE.
• Analyze chiller, pump, cooling tower, and CRAH/CRAC performance.
• Identify opportunities for free cooling, variable-speed operation, optimized chilled-water temperatures, and
other energy-saving measures where applicable.
• Support measurement and verification of energy-saving initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with mechanical, HVAC, fire/life-safety, environmental, and occupational safety
requirements.
• Participate in risk assessments and permit-to-work processes.
• Ensure safe isolation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Review method statements and risk assessments for mechanical works.
• Ensure compliance with applicable local authority requirements and international standards.
