role
Position Summary
The Associate Director, Information Technology Technician provides hands-on technical support and practical workplace assistance to keep the New York office’s technology, equipment, and workspaces functioning effectively. Responsibilities include end-user support, IT infrastructure, audiovisual and audio equipment, office equipment setup, routine furniture assembly and relocation, and coordination with facilities, building management, and external service providers.
This is an actively hands-on position, not solely a systems administration, remote support, or vendor management role. The employee is expected to move between technical troubleshooting and routine practical tasks, including repositioning manageable office furniture, assembling basic furniture and equipment stands, and assisting with office setups and changes.
The position requires initiative, sound judgment, responsiveness, and consistent follow-through. When an issue requires another team or specialist, the employee remains actively involved in assessment, coordination, communication, and follow-up within the role’s authority and appropriate safety boundaries.
Key Responsibilities
IT Systems and End-User Support
Provide responsive technical support for computers, operating systems, Microsoft 365, approved business applications, mobile devices, printers, peripherals, and user access. Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and replace equipment. Support employee onboarding, offboarding, workstation changes, and office moves.
Maintain and support onsite IT infrastructure, including network equipment, wireless connectivity, servers where applicable, equipment racks, patch panels, and associated cabling. Work with the broader IT team and managed service providers while following established security, access, and change-management procedures.
Audiovisual, Audio, and Meeting Support
Support audiovisual and audio equipment throughout the office, including conference-room systems, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, cameras, displays, conferencing devices, and associated connections and controls. This responsibility includes the physical equipment and its operation, not only computers and meeting software.
Prepare and test equipment before meetings and events, provide hands-on assistance when issues occur, and coordinate specialist support when necessary. Develop and maintain a working understanding of how office audio and video systems are connected, operated, and troubleshot.
Hands-On Office Setup and Workplace Assistance
Perform reasonable, light-duty tasks that support office operations, workspace readiness, and equipment use, including tasks that are not strictly IT-related. These duties are an established part of the position’s responsibilities.
Tasks include moving or repositioning chairs and other manageable furniture; unpacking, moving, and positioning equipment; assembling basic flat-pack desks, tables, printer stands, and similar furnishings; and arranging workstations and shared equipment areas. Assembling a desk or table for a printer and positioning it for use is specifically within the scope of this role.
Use common hand tools and manufacturer instructions to complete routine assembly and setup work. Request additional personnel, handling equipment, or other assistance when needed to complete a task safely.
Onsite Equipment and Building-System Coordination
Serve as an onsite support and coordination point for issues involving equipment and systems that serve the New York office, including those maintained by facilities, building management, or external vendors. Equipment being outside the traditional scope of IT does not remove the employee’s responsibility to assist with reporting, coordination, and follow-through.
Examples include elevators, access-control systems, intercoms, security equipment, and other powered or electronically connected workplace systems. Gather relevant information, document symptoms, identify associated IT or connectivity dependencies within the employee’s authority, and engage the appropriate responsible parties.
For an elevator issue, participation may include promptly notifying building management, documenting reported problems, coordinating with the service provider, providing information about company-managed network or communications connections, facilitating authorized vendor access, and communicating service status. The employee is not responsible for repairing or independently testing elevator machinery, controls, or safety systems.
Proactive Office Readiness and Maintenance
Regularly check workspaces, conference rooms, shared equipment areas, and IT spaces to identify malfunctioning equipment, damaged or disorganized cabling, missing components, and other conditions requiring attention. Address issues within the role’s authority and promptly report or coordinate those requiring assistance.
Maintain orderly equipment storage, accurate asset records, appropriate spare equipment and supplies, and clear documentation of configurations and support procedures. Identify and address visible or recurring problems without relying solely on employees submitting support requests.
Service Ownership and Collaboration
Take responsibility for assigned issues from initial response through resolution or management-approved reassignment. Engage the appropriate team or vendor promptly, provide useful troubleshooting information, communicate progress, and track outstanding actions.
Escalating an issue does not, by itself, complete the employee’s involvement. Continue appropriate coordination and follow-up, and confirm resolution with the affected user or responsible service provider. For specialist equipment, obtain service-restoration confirmation from the party authorized to perform the work.
Work collaboratively with employees, office operations, building management, vendors, and the broader IT team. Balance urgent support with planned work, respect employees’ time, seek additional help when troubleshooting stalls, and request management guidance when priorities conflict.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Demonstrated experience providing hands-on corporate IT support, including desktop troubleshooting, Microsoft 365, hardware deployment, networking fundamentals, and conference-room or audiovisual support.
Basic practical proficiency with common hand tools, written assembly instructions, equipment connections, cable management, routine furniture assembly, and light-duty office moves.
Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment, consult documentation, request appropriate guidance, and work effectively with specialist providers.
Strong customer service, communication, organization, and independent problem-solving skills. A collaborative approach and willingness to perform both technical and routine practical work are essential to the position.
Practical Responsibilities and Safe Working Practices
Routine practical work, including moving chairs and other manageable furniture, assembling basic desks and equipment stands, and positioning office equipment, is an expected responsibility of this position.
The employee is expected to apply basic practical skills, follow manufacturer instructions, and seek reasonable guidance when unfamiliar with a task. Lack of previous experience or item-specific training does not, by itself, remove a routine task from the employee’s responsibilities. Where guidance is needed, the expectation is to request that guidance and work toward safe completion rather than decline the task solely because it is unfamiliar.
Safety concerns must be raised promptly, identifying the particular concern so the task can be assessed and appropriate instructions, equipment, assistance, or an alternative approach provided. Pause affected work when it cannot be performed safely. Heavy or awkward items may require additional personnel or handling equipment; unsafe lifting or handling is not expected.
Work requiring specialist qualifications or authorization, such as elevator repairs, work on building electrical circuits or panels, structural work, or intervention in safety systems, must be performed by appropriately qualified and authorized personnel. The employee must not bypass safety devices or attempt specialist repairs outside the role’s authority. For these issues, the employee remains responsible for assigned coordination, communication, and follow-up.
Onsite Attendance and Physical Requirements
The normal work schedule requires attendance in the New York office five days per week, with no regularly scheduled work-from-home days . Daily responsibilities include in-person employee assistance, physical equipment support, meeting readiness, workplace setup, and onsite vendor coordination.
The work involves moving throughout the office, handling and positioning equipment and manageable furniture, accessing workstation and equipment-rack connections, and using basic hand tools. Essential functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. Appropriate assistance and handling equipment must be used where needed.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other reasonable duties related to IT service delivery, onsite equipment support, and workplace readiness as assigned, consistent with the position’s scope, appropriate authorization, and safe working practices.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $95,000 to 100,000.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
