Lead with integrity. Make sound decisions. Help our teams work safer and smarter.
You’re an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys being close to the operation. You’re comfortable making decisions, building relationships and giving practical advice, but you’re just as willing to get out on site and work alongside teams when they need your support.
We’re looking for an HSQE Manager to support our Grounds Maintenance division across the UK. This is a varied, fast-moving role with plenty of autonomy, where you’ll have the opportunity to influence how we work, support our people and clients, and bring forward ideas that can genuinely improve the way we approach safety.
What you'll do:
In this role, you’ll provide practical HSQE leadership across our Grounds Maintenance operations, balancing day-to-day support with the bigger picture of improving safety performance and developing our people.
- Partner with operational managers and teams across the country, providing practical advice and making confident HSQE decisions that help keep our people and operations safe.
- Get out into the operation, visiting sites and working alongside managers and teams to understand challenges first-hand and find practical ways forward.
- Support incident investigations, audits and risk management, turning findings into clear actions and making sure lessons learned lead to meaningful improvements.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, confidently discussing safety performance, incidents and improvement plans and giving them confidence in the actions we’re taking.
- Review HSQE reports, performance information and trends, providing meaningful insight that helps operational leaders understand where attention and action are needed.
- Coach and mentor colleagues, sharing your knowledge and helping both operational managers and developing HSQE professionals strengthen their own understanding and confidence.
- Support PQQs, client information and safety initiatives, helping us communicate our standards and approach to HSQE clearly and effectively.
- Look for opportunities to make things better, whether that’s improving a system, simplifying a process or introducing a new approach that helps our teams work more safely and efficiently.
What you'll get:
- The autonomy to use your own experience and judgement, with the trust to make decisions rather than having to escalate every challenge.
- A genuinely varied national role where you’ll work with different people, clients and operational environments.
- The opportunity to influence safety across a large operational division and see the difference your work makes on the ground.
- The freedom to bring forward new ideas and challenge how things are currently done when you can see a better way.
- Exposure to a broad range of activities that will continue to develop and diversify your HSQE experience.
- An experienced team around you, alongside the opportunity to support and develop others.
What we're looking for:
- Strong Health & Safety experience within a hands-on operational environment. Grounds Maintenance or landscaping experience would be a real advantage, but we’d also welcome transferable experience from areas such as construction, forestry, highways or rail.
- A minimum NEBOSH General Certificate, supported by enough practical experience to make confident and informed Health & Safety decisions.
- Someone who enjoys working at pace, can manage competing priorities and is comfortable taking ownership without needing lots of direction.
- A practical, hands-on approach and the flexibility to move between advising at management level and getting out on site to support people directly.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, understand the real issue and build trusted relationships with operational teams, senior stakeholders and clients.
- Experience across incident investigation, auditing, risk management and HSQE reporting, with a focus on turning information into action.
- A continuous improvement mindset and the confidence to embrace change, challenge existing ways of working and bring forward new ideas.
- Above all, integrity, a strong work ethic and the willingness to get involved. You’ll be someone people can trust, who takes ownership and genuinely wants to make a difference.
This is a national role, so there will be travel to operational sites and client locations when required.
If you enjoy variety, want the freedom to put your ideas into action and are looking for an HSQE role where you can make a visible difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary – aligned with your skills and experience
- Performance‑linked bonus: Bonus opportunities aligned to your level and contribution.
- Pension scheme – helping you plan for the future
- Recognition schemes – celebrating and rewarding great work
- Private GP service – fast, convenient access to medical support
- Life insurance – providing added peace of mind
- Subsidised gym membership – supporting your health and wellbeing
- Holiday buy scheme – purchase up to 5 additional days of annual leave
