Want to lead the development of the embedded platforms that power the next generation of advanced avionics systems? The Advanced Processing Architectures Software organization delivers embedded processing solutions used across a wide range of safety‑critical commercial and military avionics applications. Our team develops, verifies, certifies, and sustains advanced processing and graphics capabilities that uphold the highest standards of reliability and performance.

We are seeking an Embedded Platform Software Engineer (P2) to join our team developing foundational software for advanced embedded processing platforms. In this role, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and integration of low‑level platform software, including drivers, hardware‑abstraction components, initialization routines, and diagnostic capabilities. You will work closely with more experienced engineers to solve well‑defined technical problems, build increasing independence in development and debugging, and contribute to team goals beyond your own tasks.

This position offers the opportunity to deepen your understanding of embedded systems, learn platform‑level development practices, and grow into a key contributor within a multi‑disciplinary engineering team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Implement and test embedded platform software features with minimal guidance from senior engineers

- Solve problems of limited complexity related to drivers, board‑level interactions, platform initialization, or basic diagnostics

- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team technical activities

- Document your work clearly, including design notes, test results, and integration steps

- Communicate task status, risks, and technical questions effectively within the team

- Follow established development processes and recommend incremental improvements

- Collaborate with team members to achieve shared goals and support broader project milestones

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

- Embedded software development practices including drivers, HAL patterns, basic boot flows, and system initialization

- How to connect task‑level work to larger project milestones and deliverables

- Techniques for debugging hardware/software interactions at the platform level

- How to work across disciplines (systems, hardware, verification) within a product development environment

- Effective communication, estimation, and engineering planning skills

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE

- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
- 2+ years of embedded software experience
- Theoretical to advanced understanding of embedded systems gained through education and hands‑on development
- Experience programming in C or C++ for embedded environments
- Experience with scripting (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Understanding of microcontrollers, SoCs, interfaces, or low‑level software fundamentals
- Experience working within a structured engineering lifecycle that includes planning, implementation, verification, and delivery
- Experience using engineering planning, configuration-management, or work-management tools such as MS Project, Jira, Git, or similar tools

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER

- Experience working with RTOS‑based development (VxWorks, Integrity, or similar)
- Familiarity with DO-330, DO-200, DO-178 or other regulated engineering environments
- Familiarity with hardware bring‑up, lab tools, or reading schematics/register maps
- Prior experience working in Agile development teams
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; active listener and effective collaborator
- Ability to seek feedback, accept coaching, and incorporate direction from leads and mentors
- Ability to estimate and plan assigned tasks with minimal guidance
