Job Summary
Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Senior Hardware Product Manager, to define and drive the evolution of our enterprise NGFW hardware portfolio. As a Hardware Product Manager within the Network Security (NetSec) organization at Palo Alto Networks, a core imperative of your role is to champion and guarantee platform excellence across our physical hardware portfolio. Your leadership will directly influence the ability of our largest global Enterprise customers to achieve their strategic technical and operational objectives through the deployment of our cutting-edge hardware.
This role requires a high degree of readiness to jump into ambiguity, driving physical platforms across Security, Routing, Switching and SD-WAN appliances from early architecture to full commercial scale. You will pioneer new hardware operational models while maintaining rigorous Palo Alto Networks engineering oversight, spearheading cross-functional teams across Engineering, Technical Marketing (TME), Supply Chain, Operations/S&OP, Finance, IT, Customer Support, and GTM teams. You are the ultimate owner of the hardware experience, ensuring our platforms lead the industry in performance, reliability, COGS optimization, and ease of deployment.
##
Your Impact
- Drive physical platform strategy across Switching, Routing, SD-WAN, and Security Appliances, defining hardware specifications, ASIC/FPGA/CPU requirements, component selection, vendor delivery timelines, and full lifecycle roadmaps.
- Develop and execute a forward-looking hardware portfolio strategy, keeping a keen eye on global industry and technology trends that shape the future of network security architectures and device placements.
- Translate customer and market requirements into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and measurable success metrics. Define and monitor product KPIs and use customer, product, and operational data to guide roadmap priorities and product improvements
- Lead new operational models for strategic manufacturing partnerships, balancing production alignment and COGS optimization with uncompromising Palo Alto Networks engineering oversight, quality standards, and IP protection.
- Define and simplify complex scale parameters—including throughput, switching capacity, port density, session scale, and latency—to create clear guidelines that help customers accurately right-size their deployments for predictable performance.
- Leverage AIOps, telemetry, and enhanced visibility tools to gather critical insights into hardware performance, field reliability, and component quality, translating data into tangible product innovations, engineering fixes, and business justifications.
- Spearhead hardware-level integrations with strategic technology partners and silicon vendors while overseeing critical global certifications—including FIPS, Common Criteria, and NEBS—to guarantee our platforms meet global regulatory standards in enterprise and regulated environments.
- Maintain primary concentration on release quality, system stability, and orderability from silicon conceptualization through strategic pricing and NPI. Partner closely with Supply Chain, IT, Finance, and GTM teams to ensure seamless forecasting, orderability, and specialized sales enablement.
- Act as a critical reviewer of datasheets and technical documentation, partnering with Technical Marketing to ensure external technical messaging is accurate, impactful, and technically sound.
- Proactively partner with Customer Support and Engineering to resolve complex technical escalations and navigate ambiguous, high-pressure situations to provide the highest level of customer experience.
- Present Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) for your platform portfolio to executive leadership, do webinars, and represent Palo Alto Networks in front of key enterprise customers.
- Use AI and modern product-development tools to accelerate research, prototyping, analytics, requirements development, and product decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in product management, technical product management, technical marketing, engineering leadership, or a related technical role
- 3+ years of experience working with security, networking, switching infrastructure, or related platform products
- Deep understanding of ASIC, FPGA, and CPU architectures and how hardware offloads security, switching, and routing functions at line rate.
- Proven expertise defining hardware specs for enterprise platforms, including deep knowledge of L2/L3 Switching, Routing, SD-WAN, Power over Ethernet (PoE), diverse Ethernet speeds, varied network topologies, and Optics/Transceiver technologies.
- Technical product management experience leading complex hardware platforms through the full NPI lifecycle (EVT, DVT, PVT). Proven track record managing manufacturing partners, vendor delivery timelines, component selection, and supply chain alignment.
- Demonstrated success in COGS optimization, margin management, ROI modeling, and forecasting in close coordination with Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations.
- Proven ability to jump into ambiguity, solve complex cross-functional challenges, and make sound, data-backed decisions in high-stakes environments.
- Exceptional ability to bridge engineering discussions with executive strategy, working closely with Technical Marketing, Sales, IT, and Field teams to enable specialized sales motions and drive product adoption.
- Keen eye on global technology trends, market shifts, and competitive landscapes to ensure Palo Alto Networks maintains a performance, density, and value advantage across our physical appliance portfolio.
