About this role
Team
Reality Labs Devices designs, builds, and ships Meta's consumer hardware, including AI glasses, Meta Quest, and the AR/VR devices on our roadmap. Hardware engineering, program management, manufacturing operations, supply chain, and logistics all sit in one organization, working the same product roadmap. A product passes through all of it, from prototype builds through mass production to customers in markets around the world, and it stays our responsibility from launch through end of life.
The Devices Product Engineering Operations team runs the operational backbone for those programs. We own the processes, systems, and reporting that connect engineering execution to business outcomes, partnering across hardware engineering, program management, finance, sourcing, and operations.
Role
As a TPM intern you will own a scoped workstream on a live program, sitting at the intersection of engineering execution and business outcomes. You will build schedules, track dependencies and risks, escalate blockers early, and translate hardware development and manufacturing detail into cost, schedule, and resourcing implications for both technical and business audiences.
You will work directly with hardware engineers, technical and operations program managers, finance and sourcing partners, and functional leads, building real fluency in both how consumer hardware gets built and how it gets funded, sourced, and shipped. Most projects take a recurring operations problem and solve it with Meta's internal AI tools and data platforms. You will be paired with a mentor and present your results to leadership at the end of the internship.
Projects are set closer to the start date based on where the business is. Examples of the kind of work you might do:
Trace how a change at one point in the supply chain, such as a supplier commit shortfall or a demand swing, moves through to factory output, distribution center inventory, and channel availability, and build a tool that sizes the impact and lays out the options.
Build a cost model for a part of unit cost that is hard to see today, such as logistics or post-sale support, and surface specific opportunities to reduce it.
Reconcile a costed bill of materials across procurement, product records, and manufacturing partners, and make that reconciliation repeatable.
Design workflow automation that eliminates manual handoffs and status-chasing, with proactive notification logic that surfaces exceptions before they hit program schedules.
Build a view that pulls status, risks, and metrics from every in-market program into one place and finds the patterns no single program can see.
Turn an operating playbook, such as how we qualify a change or launch a new market, into a structured process anyone on the team can run.
Responsibilities
With direction from your manager, own a scoped project end to end: frame the problem, define how success will be measured, deliver a working solution, and present results and recommendations to leadership.
Create project structure, build a communication plan, and drive accountability for progress on your workstream.
Gather requirements from cross-functional partners across engineering, operations, program management, sourcing, trade, and vendor teams.
Distinguish essential requirements from optional ones and document the tradeoffs made when scoping the project.
Work with partner teams to hit established program goals.
Build and maintain schedules and roadmaps, track dependencies and risks, and escalate blockers early.
Analyze supply chain and financial data, such as demand, supply, inventory, build plans, and bill of materials cost, to find risks and opportunities and recommend actions.
Map processes, supply chains, and product structures to find where work can be simplified, automated, or made more reliable.
Identify a process or tooling improvement opportunity and execute a change that improves efficiency, traceability, or cost.
Use Meta's internal AI tools and certified data sources to build solutions that are repeatable across products rather than one-off analyses.
Translate between technical and business audiences, converting engineering detail into cost, schedule, and resourcing implications and the reverse.
Communicate clearly and concisely in writing and in reviews, including status, risks, trade-offs, and asks.
Participate in technical discussions, highlight problems early, and pull in the right people to resolve them.
Document workflows and hand off a sustainable, supportable solution at the end of the internship.
