About this role

Ready to shape how HSBC’s top leaders communicate with the world?

The Role

The Director of Executive Communications is a senior, multidisciplinary communications adviser to HSBC’s Group Chair, Group CEO and Group CFO, helping translate their priorities into clear and coordinated communications strategies. Working closely with the Group Head of Executive Communications, you’ll combine strategic counsel with hands-on delivery across high-profile internal and external moments. The role shapes executive narrative and positioning with strong media and reputational judgement. It sits at the centre of a complex and highly scrutinised environment where messages need to connect HSBC’s strategy and performance to the wider external context. Success looks like distinctive and coherent leadership communications that land with colleagues, investors, media and other stakeholders. You’ll help senior leaders stay prepared for fast-moving events while maintaining high standards of quality, consistency and governance.

What you'll be doing

- Translate the priorities of the Group Chair, Group CEO and Group CFO into communications strategies, narratives and interventions
- Provide counsel to senior leaders and Chiefs of Staff on positioning, reputation and high-profile engagements, including constructive challenge when needed
- Develop distinctive communications approaches and voices for each principal while maintaining coherence with HSBC’s strategy and reputation
- Shape leadership narratives that connect HSBC’s strategy and performance to economic, political, technological and societal context
- Oversee communications for major leadership moments including results, strategic announcements, international engagements, conferences and priority internal events
- Support the Group Chair, CEO and Group CFO through the financial calendar across results materials, investor communications, media preparation and priority content
- Create high-quality materials including speeches, remarks, briefing notes, presentations, articles, interviews, Q&A and social content
- Partner with Media Relations and other teams to align executive positioning and messaging with broader communications activity

What we're looking for

- Bring relevant communications experience in complex, high-profile and highly scrutinised organisations and/or strategic communications advisory environments
- Demonstrate substantial experience across multiple communications disciplines such as executive communications, media relations, corporate reputation, issues and crisis management, public affairs, employee communications or digital communications
- Evidence advising Chairs, CEOs, CFOs or other C-suite leaders with sound judgement on reputation and high-profile engagements
- Show exceptional writing capability, turning complex subjects into communications that are clear, engaging and authentic
- Apply strong news judgement and an understanding of how stakeholders and wider audiences may interpret corporate decisions and events
- Operate comfortably between strategic counsel and hands-on execution, adapting style to what the moment requires
- Navigate high-stakes corporate moments such as financial results, major announcements, transactions, crises, regulatory issues or significant reputational issues
- Work effectively across a complex matrix organisation, partnering across functions, businesses and geographies
