About the Role

As a Senior Design Manager, you will serve a critical role in delivering outstanding environments for our customers and innovating on the physical products we provide. You will work closely with other Design Managers, Product Development, as well as cross-functional Real Estate, Construction, Operations, and Launch teams to support the company's growth and development goals for new locations.

We're looking for a creative self-starter who works comfortably in ambiguous circumstances, proactively seeks solutions to issues, and is excited to have a voice in design and product conversations across the organization.

This role may be based in any US Industrious Hub Market (New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Atlanta, Tampa, South Florida, Austin, Phoenix, or Los Angeles).

What Might Your Day Look Like

Your day might start reviewing a test fit and blocking plan with Real Estate and Operations for a site in the pipeline. From there, you shift to overseeing construction documents and coordinating with external architects, engineers, and vendors to keep a project on budget and schedule. Part of the afternoon might go to specifying FF&E, artwork, and greenery for an upcoming launch, or coaching a Design Manager through a project decision. By the end of the day, you're looking at ways to improve your team's design workflows, or thinking through how an emerging design trend could shape future product standards.

What You Will Own

- Project Leadership: Oversee select projects through all phases of design, including Test Fit, SD, DD, CD, Construction Administration, and launch. Ensure that Industrious product standards and guidelines are followed in design decision-making, advocating for both our brand and design vision to landlord partners, while managing the quality of vendor outputs.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with Real Estate, Operations, and Construction on programming, blocking plans, and test fits.
- FF&E Oversight: Specify furniture, accessories, artwork, and greenery.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work collaboratively with Construction, Procurement, Real Estate, Legal, Operations, and Facilities, as well as external consultants and vendors.
- Process Improvements: Identify and implement opportunities to enhance design workflows and efficiency.
- Design Innovation: Identify design ideas, trends, and new product specifications to evolve our design standards and innovate our physical workplace products.
- Team Building: Build a positive culture on our growing team and have significant input to our design vision, strategy, and execution.
- People Management: Coach Design Managers and manage performance.

You Will Love This Role If…

- You are a creative self-starter who works comfortably in ambiguous circumstances.
- You proactively seek solutions to issues and want a real voice in design and product conversations across the organization.
- You enjoy managing multiple concurrent projects and prioritizing effectively under competing deadlines.

This Role Is Probably Not for You If…

- You need a large internal team of junior designers to collaborate with and delegate day to day production to.
- You prefer working on a single, predictable project type rather than a varied portfolio across different sites and programs.

What We Are Looking For

- Experience: 8 to 10 years leading design, working with end users, with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
- Expertise: Proven track record in workplace design. Experience with hospitality, mixed use or residential design, highly preferred. Experience and knowledge of the construction process as it relates to design, both in terms of relative cost and constructability.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam; strong grasp of building codes, MEP design, construction documentation.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design ideas.
- Time Management: Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working in a virtual, distributed team environment.
- Values: Commitment to integrity, teamwork, and ownership.
- Travel: Willingness to travel within the US for site visits, project launches and team events up to 1 to 2 times per month.
