About this role

We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for you to take your software engineering career to the next level.

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within the Commercial & Investment Bank Digital & Platform Services team, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities
- Execute end-to-end software solutions through design, development, testing, and technical troubleshooting, with the ability to think beyond routine approaches to build scalable solutions and break down complex technical problems.
- Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain reliable services and algorithms that integrate appropriately with dependent systems.
- Design and build backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot, following clean architecture, performance, resiliency, and security best practices.
- Define and implement API contracts using OpenAPI Specification (Swagger); ensure consistent versioning, backward compatibility, and strong consumer experience.
- Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assistant tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., refactoring, unit tests, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contribute reusable patterns and learnings to improve team effectiveness.
- Apply expertise across the SDLC toolchain (CI/CD, automation, observability, and operational readiness) to improve delivery outcomes and reliability.
- Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications; remain accountable for ensuring design constraints are implemented correctly in code.
- Build and maintain event-driven and streaming integrations using Kafka, including topic design, message schemas, consumer groups, and reliability patterns.
- Use SQL and scripting to support development, troubleshooting, automation, and operational analysis.
- Build, deploy, and operate services in cloud environments (AWS/Azure), including troubleshooting production issues and optimizing for cost, performance, and stability.
- Use containerization and Docker (and related orchestration patterns where applicable) for consistent build and runtime environments

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
- Strong backend experience with hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Strong hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot (REST services, dependency injection, testing patterns, performance tuning).
- Experience designing and implementing APIs and defining contracts using OpenAPI Specification.
- Working experience with cloud technologies (AWS and/or Azure) and cloud-native engineering practices.
- Hands-on experience with Docker/containerization and deployment best practices.
- Experience with Kafka (producers/consumers, event-driven architecture patterns, reliability considerations).
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language for automation, troubleshooting, and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment, with the ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage.
- Overall knowledge of SDLC and agile ways of working, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Familiarity with modern back-end technologies, patterns, and frameworks (beyond core Spring Boot).
- Exposure to broader cloud-native ecosystem (observability, IaC concepts, managed services, security controls).
- Nice to have: front-end knowledge (basic understanding of UI integration patterns, web fundamentals, or modern JS frameworks).
