Start your Occupational Therapy career somewhere you can learn, grow and feel supported from day one. Join Monash Health’s Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program and spend your graduate year building your confidence, developing your clinical skills and discovering where a career in mental health can take you.
About the Role
We are excited to welcome applications from Graduate Occupational Therapists for our 2027 Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program.
Commencing in February 2027, this 12-month program provides the opportunity to gain experience across a range of mental health settings, supporting children, young people, adults and older adults across community and inpatient services. Throughout your graduate year, you’ll develop the foundations of mental health practice, including assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention, while building your confidence as an Occupational Therapist.
Importantly, you won’t be expected to figure it all out on your own.
You’ll be supported by a dedicated Occupational Therapy Clinical Educator, regular supervision and a structured learning program designed to help you build both your discipline-specific OT skills and your broader mental health knowledge. This is a graduate year designed for learning – giving you the support, experiences and opportunities to grow into the clinician you want to become.
About the Program
Monash Health’s Mental Health Program provides care across the lifespan, with services spanning infant, child and youth, adult and older adult mental health. Our services include inpatient, community and rehabilitation programs alongside specialist services, giving our graduates exposure to the breadth and diversity of mental health care.
The Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program is embedded within our mental health workforce and has been designed specifically to support clinicians at the beginning of their careers.
You’ll join a multidisciplinary graduate cohort that may include Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, Exercise Physiologists, Dietitians, Music Therapists and Art Therapists – giving you the opportunity to learn not only from experienced clinicians, but with and from other graduates beginning their careers alongside you.
About You
You’re an early-career Occupational Therapist with a genuine interest in mental health and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of consumers, carers and families. You don’t need to have everything figured out yet. We’re looking for someone who is curious, compassionate and ready to learn.
You’ll bring:
- a genuine interest in developing your career in mental health
- curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and trying new things
- a commitment to person-centred, family-inclusive and evidence-based care
- a collaborative approach and willingness to learn from consumers, carers, families, lived experience and clinical colleagues
- compassion, empathy and respect for the individual experiences of the people you support
- a commitment to safe, high-quality practice.
To be eligible, you will be an early-career Occupational Therapist with less than two years of professional experience and hold:
- A Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy), Master of Occupational Therapy or equivalent recognised qualification
- Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as an Occupational Therapist, without restrictions
- A current Australian Driver Licence.
Why Join Us?
Your graduate year should be about more than getting through your first year – it should give you the foundations for the clinician you want to become.
At Monash Health, we know that starting your career can be exciting, challenging and sometimes a little daunting. That’s why our graduate program surrounds you with support, learning and connection from the beginning.
You’ll have access to:
- A dedicated Occupational Therapy Clinical Educator – someone who understands your discipline and can support you as you translate university learning into clinical practice.
- Protected learning time – dedicated space to learn, reflect and develop without learning becoming something you have to squeeze in around everything else.
- Regular supervision – including fortnightly one-to-one clinical supervision, multidisciplinary group supervision and peer support.
- A graduate community around you – start your career alongside other allied health graduates who are learning, developing and navigating their first year too.
- Exposure to diverse areas of mental health – build experience across different age groups, settings and models of care while discovering the areas that interest you most.
- Learning from experienced clinicians and specialists – access professional development delivered by Allied Health Mental Health Educators and clinical experts.
- Discovery Days – explore different programs and areas of practice to help you think about where you’d like your career to take you next.
Most importantly, you’ll be joining a program that expects you to be a graduate. You’ll be supported to ask questions, build your confidence, develop your clinical identity and grow throughout the year.
Come as a graduate. Leave with the confidence, experience and connections to take the next step in your mental health career.
As a Monash Health employee, you’ll also have access to benefits including salary packaging, health and wellbeing initiatives, free vaccinations, discounted private health insurance and access to selected health services for you and your family.
