About this role

We’re looking for passionate engineering students for a hands-on UWB Radar Modem internship combining signal processing, ML, algorithm development, simulation, experimental validation, and real-hardware prototyping.

Your Responsibilities

- Research, develop, and evaluate signal-processing and ML algorithms for UWB Radar applications.
- Build simulation, algorithm-development, and data-analysis tools.
- Design and conduct laboratory experiments, collect radar measurements, and analyze system performance.
- Develop tools for measurement automation, data collection, and chip/system validation.
- Prototype and demonstrate new sensing capabilities using real-world radar data and hardware.
- Document results and communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and demonstrations.
- Collaborate with engineers across systems, algorithms, RF, hardware, software, and applications teams.

Your Profile

Minimum Qualifications

- Currently pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- Strong foundation in digital signal processing, signals and systems, communication theory, linear algebra, probability, or related areas.
- Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar languages.
- Ability to translate mathematical concepts into simulations and working implementations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.

Nice to Have

Experience in one or more of the following is a plus:

- Machine learning applied to sensing or signal-processing problems
- Embedded or real-time signal-processing implementation
- Laboratory measurements, RF test equipment, or hardware experimentation.
- Research, coursework, or technical projects in signal processing, radar, wireless systems, sensing, machine learning, localization, or related areas.

Prior UWB or radar experience is not required. Strong fundamentals and demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems are equally valuable.

Location & Internship Eligibility

This role is based in our Irvine, California office. Interns should expect to work on-site five days per week to enable close collaboration and hands-on laboratory work.

The internship is 40 hours per week. Candidates must meet NXP's internship eligibility requirements, including applicable student-status and graduation-date requirements.

Why Join Us?

- Work on real technology: Contribute to UWB Radar and sensing technologies for industrial IoT, robotics, mobile, and emerging applications.
- Solve hard problems: Apply signal processing, ML, mathematical modeling, and experimentation to problems where the solution is not always known.
- Build and test: Go beyond simulation by working with radar hardware, collecting real-world data, and developing working prototypes.
