About this role
Job Title: Sr Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a hands-on Sr Mechanical Engineer to advance cutting-edge robotics hardware in a full-time, on-site role in Bellevue, WA. You will connect detailed simulation work with real-world engineering by using finite element analysis to guide design decisions, drive improvements from modeling through testing, and produce release-quality documentation. In this position, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, assembly, reliability, and overall performance. Responsibilities
- Perform structural and thermal finite element analyses, translating modeling results into clear design recommendations, tradeoffs, and engineering decisions.
- Provide design-for-X feedback, including design for manufacturing and design for assembly, to inform and improve mechanical designs.
- Leverage prior experience working with motors and actuators to influence design choices and system performance.
- Define test plans, execute tests, investigate hardware failures, identify root causes, and iterate rapidly toward robust, working hardware.
- Present design tradeoffs, technical risks, engineering decisions, and project progress directly to stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
- Apply structured quality and problem-solving methods to improve manufacturing performance and reduce field issues and safety risks.
- Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturing partners to implement design recommendations and support production readiness.
- Create and maintain detailed part and assembly drawings, with particular attention to features and tolerances that are critical to function.
- Adapt to evolving project priorities while consistently delivering on engineering goals throughout a long-term engagement.
- Demonstrate an ownership mindset by identifying needed work, managing priorities, and meeting commitments within a fast-paced schedule.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience performing finite element analysis (FEA).
- At least 8 years of applicable mechanical engineering experience.
- Bachelors or masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Proficiency with FEA software, with ANSYS strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with a mechanical CAD package, with SolidWorks strongly preferred.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Bellevue, WA.
- Experience applying FEA results to guide design decisions and communicate tradeoffs.
- Strong capability to create and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset, including self-directed work planning and accountability in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive, client-focused approach and a strong commitment to ethical conduct.
- Experience working with motors and actuators in mechanical systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using SolidWorks PDM or similar systems to manage CAD files and revisions.
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and high-volume production methods, including injection molding, casting, sheet metal fabrication, and machining.
- Understanding of actuators, gear trains, and transmissions, including their application in robotics or complex mechanical systems.
- Strong skills in tolerance analysis and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA).
- Hands-on experience with testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis of mechanical hardware.
- Experience navigating technical discussions with clients or demanding external stakeholders while remaining a hands-on individual contributor.
- Experience performing torque-speed, duty-cycle, inertia, efficiency, life, force, energy, vibration, or thermal analyses.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site role based at a client facility in Bellevue, WA. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners in a collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on advancing robotics hardware. The setting supports hands-on engineering, including testing and interaction with physical hardware, alongside extensive use of simulation and CAD tools such as ANSYS and SolidWorks.
