About this role

Filtronic is an award-winning designer and manufacturer of advanced RF, microwave and mmWave solutions for the Space, Defence, Aerospace and Telecommunications markets.

With a strong track record of innovation and continued growth, we design and manufacture highly engineered products that operate in some of the world’s most demanding environments. Our technology supports critical applications, and our continued expansion brings exciting opportunities to make a real impact.

As a profitable, AIM-listed business, Filtronic is growing rapidly, and maintaining robust security, export control and compliance arrangements is essential to protecting our people, technology, intellectual property and reputation.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Export Control and Security Lead to take ownership of Filtronic’s security governance arrangements and lead our export control and security compliance framework.

Reporting to the Director of QEHSS, you will act as the company’s Security Controller, overseeing the management, maintenance and ongoing compliance of our Facility Security Clearance (FSC) and Industry Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA) approvals.

Working across multiple functions, you will ensure that security and export control requirements are understood, embedded and consistently applied throughout the business. You will also develop and maintain effective relationships with government, regulatory and industry bodies, providing clear, practical guidance to colleagues at all levels.

You will play a key role in ensuring that controlled, military and dual-use goods, software and technology are correctly identified, managed and exported in accordance with UK requirements and applicable international obligations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive compliance professional to take ownership of a critical business function within a growing, technology-led organisation.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as Filtronic’s Security Controller, taking ownership of security governance and ensuring the effective management and ongoing compliance of Facility Security Clearance (FSC) and Industry Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA) approvals.
- Maintain constructive working relationships with the Ministry of Defence, ISAC and other relevant government, regulatory and industry bodies, keeping up to date with current and emerging legislation, standards and expectations.
- Lead the company’s export control and security compliance framework, ensuring controlled, military and dual-use goods, software and technology are correctly identified, managed and exported.
- Oversee the administration and use of export licences, monitoring licence conditions, records, controlled goods and technology transfers, customer end-use and destination risks, and associated compliance evidence.
- Develop, implement and maintain practical security, export control and compliance policies, procedures and guidance that support robust governance and efficient business operations.
- Prepare for and support regulatory audits and assurance activities, including reviews by the UK Export Control Joint Unit, Ministry of Defence and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring any findings are addressed promptly.
- Promote awareness of security and export control requirements across the organisation, working closely with Engineering, Commercial, Programmes, Procurement, Operations, IT and Supply Chain to develop and maintain appropriate control plans.
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, facilities, systems and controls to strengthen compliance, reduce risk and maintain readiness for customer, regulatory and government assurance requirements.
- Maintain awareness of EU and US export control regimes, including ITAR and EAR principles where relevant, supporting bids, customer engagement, technical discussions and early-stage commercial decision-making.

Requirements

You will be an experienced professional in export control, security, compliance or a closely related regulated environment.

Ideally, you will have worked within a technology-led, engineering, defence or manufacturing organisation and be comfortable translating complex regulatory requirements into practical processes that work for the business.

Confident in working across different functions and engaging with external stakeholders, you will combine strong organisational skills and attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk management and continuous improvement.

You will ideally have:

- Experience working in export control, security, compliance or a related regulated environment.
- Knowledge of UK export control requirements and the management of controlled, military and dual-use goods, software and technology.
- Experience managing or supporting security clearance processes and associated governance arrangements.
- Experience working with government departments, regulators or industry bodies.
- An understanding of export licensing, licence conditions, end-use requirements and destination considerations.
- Awareness of international export control regimes, including ITAR and EAR principles.
- Experience preparing for or supporting audits, inspections and assurance activities.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to communicate complex requirements clearly and effectively to colleagues across different functions.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach to identifying risks, improving processes and maintaining compliance.
