About this role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Corporate Account Director to join Biffa, taking overall responsibility for our prestigious Total Waste Management partnership with Heathrow Airport.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a significant, high-profile contract within one of the UK's busiest and most complex operational environments.
With an annual contract value of approximately £4.7 million, you'll take ownership of commercial performance, strategic client relationships, contract delivery and continuous improvement, ensuring we deliver exceptional service while supporting Heathrow's ambitious sustainability objectives.
Working closely with operational leadership, commercial teams and senior Heathrow stakeholders, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this important partnership.
What you'll be doing
- Strategic Account Leadership: Lead the Heathrow contract strategy, driving commercial performance, service excellence, customer satisfaction and long-term growth.
- Commercial & Financial Management: Take full accountability for contract profitability, budgets, forecasting, cost control and identifying new business opportunities.
- Client & Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with senior Heathrow stakeholders, leading strategic reviews, negotiations and ensuring successful contract delivery.
- Operational Excellence & Compliance: Oversee the performance of a complex 24/7 operation, ensuring service standards, contractual commitments, safety and compliance requirements are met.
- Sustainability & Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to support Heathrow's 70% recycling ambition, championing innovation, operational efficiencies and environmental improvements.
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, accountability and a culture of continuous improvement.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced, commercially astute leader with a proven track record of managing complex, high-value contracts and developing successful long-term client partnerships. Experience in waste management isn't essential. We welcome applications from commercially focused leaders across complex, service-driven industries who can bring fresh perspectives and strong client relationship skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Significant experience in senior account management, commercial leadership or managing high-value contracts within a complex service environment.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including P&L accountability, budgeting, forecasting and identifying growth opportunities.
- Proven ability to build and maintain senior client relationships, influence stakeholders and lead commercial negotiations.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience developing teams, driving performance and delivering continuous improvement.
- A solid understanding of contract governance, KPIs, SLAs, risk management and operational compliance.
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
It would be an advantage if you also have:
- Experience within waste management, recycling, facilities management, aviation, transport or other regulated service environments.
- Knowledge of sustainability, recycling performance and resource recovery, ideally within complex or 24/7 operations.
- Experience leading contract mobilisation, transformation or operational improvement programmes.
Why join us?
This is an exciting opportunity to lead one of Biffa's most high-profile partnerships, taking ownership of a strategically important contract with significant commercial responsibility.
You'll build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, drive innovation and continuous improvement, and play a key role in supporting Heathrow's sustainability ambitions while leading a dedicated team.
Please note: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance and passes required to access Heathrow's operational areas.
