We are looking for a Senior Research Engineer/Scientist to join the Viral Vector Applications R&D section in Uppsala. The team consists of approximately 12 researchers focused on the development and optimization of downstream processes for viral vectors and plasmids, involving purification, filtration, and analytical workflows. The work in product development is about translating innovation and process understanding into solutions that meet customer needs.

We are now seeking a new colleague who will work with downstream process development activities for viral vector manufacturing, and the role focuses on developing, optimizing, and scaling purification processes supporting the development of next-generation Cytiva technologies.

What You'll Do:

As a Senior Research Engineer/Scientist, you will focus on the development, optimization, and implementation of purification processes for AAV, lentiviral vectors and plasmids. Your work will span new product development, product care, and market support projects, always with a strong customer and process performance focus.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Develop and optimize chromatography-based purification processes for AAV, lentiviral vectors, and plasmids, including the evaluation and implementation of new chromatography resins and technologies for selectivity, capacity, robustness, and scalability.
- Apply an end-to-end understanding of bioprocessing workflows, from upstream through downstream purification and analytics, to design efficient solutions and provide technically sound recommendations aligned with customer needs and regulatory requirements.
- Independently plan, execute, analyze, and document experiments using relevant analytical methods to assess purification performance and product quality, and communicate results effectively within project teams and customer interactions.
- Own and maintain laboratory instruments and infrastructure, including proper use, calibration and upkeep, SOP updates, and the development of improved technical solutions for daily work.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, including R&D, Production and QA, and contribute to scientific dissemination through posters, presentations, conferences, and other technical forums.

Who you are:

- You hold an MSc and have at least 5 years of industrial experience in biopharmaceutical process development or a PhD with a few years of experience, with a strong background in downstream processing.
- You have hands-on experience developing and optimizing chromatography-based purification processes, with a good understanding of process parameters, robustness, and scalability. Experience with viral vectors is highly desirable.
- You are highly experienced with ÄKTA systems and UNICORN software.
- You have experience using analytical methods such as ELISA, qPCR, Biacore, and HPLC to evaluate process and product performance.
- You enjoy hands-on laboratory work and independently plan, execute, document, and communicate your work in a structured manner.
- You have strong communication and presentation skills, with advanced English and working proficiency in Swedish.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

- Experience with plasmid purification and large-scale manufacturing equipment is an advantage.
- You are comfortable working in cross-functional and customer-focused teams and translating technical results into clear recommendations.
