About this role

Position: Contract-SharePoint Online Migration Business Analyst
Client: Global investment firm
Engagement Type: Contract
Location: [Remote / Hybrid]
Schedule & Duration: [Full-time, 40 hrs/week] | [Initial 6-month term, with potential extensions up
to 2 years]

This role supports an enterprise-wide consolidation of content into SharePoint Online. You will join a 20-person migration program as a business analyst embedded with the firm's business units, owning discovery, requirements, and information architecture decisions from initial intake through business sign-off. Using a structured requirements workbook, you will establish where each business unit's content lives today, across Box, on-premises file shares, and legacy repositories, and define how that content should be structured, secured, and governed in SharePoint Online. Your validated requirements become the build specification for the technical migration team.
This is a business analysis role, not an engineering role. Success depends on facilitation, structured
thinking, and clear, confident communication with stakeholders ranging from department heads to
enterprise technology leads.

Key Responsibilities
• Discovery & Source Inventory: Partner with business units and their enterprise technology leads
to inventory and validate top-level content sources, including volume, ownership, activity, and
business criticality.
• Requirements Elicitation: Lead workbook-driven working sessions to document content types,
columns and metadata, versioning needs, workflows and automation, and integrations that must
be preserved or redesigned.
• Governance & Compliance: Capture retention, sensitivity labeling, and data loss prevention
requirements aligned to Microsoft Purview, and flag regulated or confidential content for
appropriate handling with compliance stakeholders.
• Access & Permissions Analysis: Review existing folder structures and access models, identify top
document contributors and cross-functional consumers, and translate legacy permissions into a
least-privilege SharePoint Online model built on Microsoft 365 and SharePoint groups.
• Information Architecture & Site Design: Guide business units through the firm's standard site
templates; recommend hub association, site and library structure, navigation, and metadata-versus-folder strategy; and confirm accountable site owners before go-live.
• Validation, Reporting & Sign-Off: Produce clear current-state and future-state findings, reconcile
gaps with the program team, and secure formal business sign-off before migration.
• Business–Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact between business units and the
technical migration team through cutover, coordinating schedules, user communications, post-migration validation, and issue resolution.

Required Qualifications
• 3+ years of business analysis experience, including at least one end-to-end SharePoint or Microsoft 365 content migration, whether as the analyst, consultant, or a member of the migration team.
• Solid working knowledge of SharePoint Online information architecture: hub, team, and
communication sites; document libraries; content types and site columns; and permission
inheritance.
• Understanding of Microsoft 365 governance and compliance, including sensitivity labels, retention
policies, and Microsoft Purview.
• Proven ability to facilitate requirements workshops and translate business needs into clear,
structured, testable requirements.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to manage expectations
and drive decisions with senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; highly organized and able to support multiple business units concurrently against program deadlines.
• Advanced Excel skills for content inventories, requirements tracking, and status reporting

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with enterprise migration platforms such as DryvIQ or ShareGate, including
interpreting pre-migration scans and permission reports.
• Experience migrating content from Box or on-premises file shares, including identifying
redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) content.
• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry
• Familiarity with Power Automate, Teams-connected sites, and SharePoint Advanced Management
• Relevant certifications, such as:
– Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert (MS-102), or its successor, Microsoft 365 and AI Services Administrator Associate (AB-650)
– Microsoft Certified: Information Security Administrator Associate (SC-401)
– IIBA Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA) or Certified Business Analysis
Professional (CBAP)
