The Role

As a Tax Manager you will cover corporation tax, VAT and transfer pricing (routine compliance and advisory work) across a small global group, and you will have scope to improve the systems and processes behind them. You will also support the Head of Tax with advisory work. We expect the split to be roughly 80% BAU compliance, reporting and controls, and 20% advisory and projects. This is a fixed-term position covering a temporary period of leave, with handover provided.

What excites you:

Compliance and reporting

- Manage the group’s global tax compliance, filing and payment obligations: provide financial information to external advisers and review returns before submission.

- Help prepare and review indirect tax filings, and review related systems and processes, implementing changes that improve efficiency.

- Manage US reporting obligations for payment processors (1099-K and other 1099 series), including working with Product on any system changes.

- Review and advise on the application of our transfer pricing policies, including calculations that support adjustments.

- Manage the tax aspects of our employee share incentive schemes.

- Help prepare the tax reporting arising from the Mollie acquisition, including equity and share-scheme reporting.

Accounting, controls and transfer pricing

- Help manage the tax risk control framework: review and test controls, and reconcile balances to validate tax filings.

- Prepare tax disclosures for consolidated and entity-level financial statements.

Advisory and projects

- Support the Head of Tax on integration planning and other advisory projects, such as corporate structure reviews, new lines of business, debt and equity funding, overseas expansion, M&A and FATCA.

- Advise Engineering, Product, Legal and People teams on the tax implications of new products, system developments and payroll matters.

- Document tax systems and processes to support the integration with Mollie and keep the group well controlled as it evolves.

- Work collaboratively on integration projects with Mollie’s tax team.

Stakeholders

- Manage relationships with external tax advisers and preparers.

- Handle enquiries from tax authorities, investors and other stakeholders.

What excites us:

- CTA or ACA qualified, from Big 4, mid-tier or in-house practice, ideally with in-house, financial services or payments experience.

- Strong UK direct and indirect tax expertise.

- A working knowledge of payroll taxes, including benefits and expenses, and awareness of the tax risks around employee share schemes.

- Comfortable with tax accounting and preparing tax disclosures.

- Experience turning tax rules into practical, commercial advice. That includes reviewing legal documents, designing processes and suggesting ways to manage tax risk.

- Confident with IT: happy to learn how to query databases and accounting systems, and use automation tools and AI.

- A self-starter who prioritises their own workload, takes ownership, and knows when to ask for help.

- A clear communicator who can explain complex concepts to non-experts, and is robust when needed but collaborative.

What makes you stand out

- Transfer pricing calculations.

- US federal and state tax reporting.

- Experience in fintech or payments, or in a fast-growing scale-up.

Base salary range: £64,000 - £96,000 (gross).

Base salary ranges are based on role, job level, location, and market data. Please note that whilst we strive to offer competitive compensation, our approach is to pay between the minimum and the mid-point of the pay range until performance can be assessed in role. Offers will take into account level of experience, interview assessment, budgets and parity between you and fellow employees at GoCardless doing similar work.
