About this role

Description

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has a long history of success in American motorsport. Our sports car program has earned championship titles and back-to-back class victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Today, that experience and ambition continue with

RLL Team McLaren in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GTD PRO class.

We’re hiring an experienced race mechanic to support that program. Someone who knows their craft, takes responsibility for their work, and understands how much a crew depends on one another throughout a season.

Working alongside the Chief Mechanic, fellow mechanics, and the engineering team, you’ll contribute to car preparation, setup, maintenance, and trackside execution. The role combines detailed work at our Zionsville headquarters with the demands of testing and racing, where preparation and sound judgment are critical every time the car leaves the garage.

THE OPPORTUNITY

You’ll see your work through from shop preparation to competition at the track. That means understanding the car, recognizing issues early, and ensuring your assigned work is complete and ready when the team needs it.

GT3 and endurance-racing experience are valuable, and we welcome mechanics with strong backgrounds in other professional racing disciplines. What matters is the quality of your work, your technical understanding, and the value you bring to the crew.

Requirements

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Prepare, assemble, inspect, and maintain race cars and components to RLL and manufacturer specifications.
- Install and service engines, gearboxes, driveline components, suspension, cooling, fuel, and related systems.
- Follow build and setup sheets accurately and complete adjustments under the direction of the Chief Mechanic and engineering team.
- Identify mechanical issues, wear, or damage; communicate concerns promptly; and help resolve them before the car returns to the track.
- Complete and check assigned work to the required safety and quality standards, keeping the Chief Mechanic informed of progress and outstanding items.
- Support race and test operations, including loading and unloading, spare-parts preparation, and garage and paddock setup.
- Maintain an organized work area, care for tools and equipment, and follow team purchasing and parts procedures.

WHAT YOU BRING

- Proven experience preparing and maintaining race cars in professional motorsport.
- A strong working knowledge of race-car systems, chassis setup, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- The ability to interpret build sheets, setup instructions, technical specifications, and applicable racing regulations.
- Confidence with hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and relevant shop equipment.
- Careful attention to detail and sound judgment to raise concerns or ask questions before proceeding.
- Reliable follow-through, clear communication, and a willingness to help the crew complete the work.
- Availability for extensive travel to races, tests, and other scheduled team events.

Experience with GT3 cars, endurance racing, component inspection, and fabrication or machining equipment is preferred.

WORKING AT RLL

You’ll join an established racing organization with a winning record and the opportunity to contribute directly to its McLaren GTD PRO program. Based at our Zionsville headquarters, you’ll work closely with the mechanics and engineers who prepare and run the car.

- Our compensation and benefits package includes:
- Compensation based on experience and role responsibilities.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- A health savings account with employer contributions for eligible participants.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Access to our on-site Human Performance Center and Strength & Conditioning Coach.
- Team apparel and employee events.

LOCATION & SCHEDULE

This position is based on-site in Zionsville, Indiana, and reports to the Chief Mechanic. The schedule includes shop preparation, testing, and race events, with travel, weekends, and extended hours required throughout the season. Mechanics maintain a personal supply of tools appropriate to their assigned duties.
