Job Title: Electrical Engineer Job Description
The Electrical Engineer designs, develops, tests, and oversees the manufacturing and installation of electrical equipment, components, and systems used in commercial, industrial, military, and scientific applications. This role combines hands-on prototyping and lab work with systems-level electrical design, requiring strong analytical skills, the ability to interpret and create engineering drawings and blueprints, and deep expertise in electromechanical integration and debug.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment, including machinery controls, wiring, and lighting.
- Review and approve design models for cost effectiveness, reliability, and safety.
- Discuss and prepare time and cost estimates for project completion with stakeholders.
- Oversee simulation and testing of machine, structure, and system operation while monitoring product quality.
- Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
- Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Work extensively with prototypes and bench electrical assemblies, including bring-up, electro-mechanical integration, and electrical and mechanical debug.
- Read and interpret schematics, and accurately locate components on printed circuit boards (PCBs) using design schematics and layout viewers.
- Set up, support, and maintain hardware in a lab environment to enable reliable testing and evaluation.
- Generate complete assembly and test documentation for prototype assemblies and test setups, and clearly share results with the broader team.
- Participate in systems-level engineering development and testing of complex integrated electromechanical assemblies.
- Contribute to system-level electrical design, including circuit design, system bring-up, integration, and debug.
- Specify components, build schematics, complete board layouts, and support the assembly, testing, debugging, and integration of designs into opto-electro-mechanical systems.
- Perform soldering tasks, including work on fine-pitched devices, 0201 and 0402 components, BGA/CSP packages, and rework of power components.
- Program parts such as FPGAs and Flash devices and take accurate oscilloscope and other electrical measurements.
Essential Skills
- At least 8 years of experience with prototypes or bench electrical assembly, including bring-up, electro-mechanical integration, and electrical and mechanical debug.
- Strong ability to read and understand electrical schematics and locate components on PCBs using design schematics and layout viewers.
- Proven experience setting up, supporting, and maintaining hardware in a lab environment.
- Demonstrated ability to generate complete assembly and test documentation for prototype assemblies and test setups, and to communicate results clearly.
- Advanced ability to perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
- Advanced ability to create sketches, engineering drawings, and perform common engineering computations.
- Advanced ability to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
- Previous experience using computer applications and design software related to the electrical engineering field.
- Strong creativity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as a collaborative team player while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Leadership and mentoring skills to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
- Capacity to think critically and leverage innovative ideas in complex engineering scenarios.
- Bachelors degree in engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Systems-level engineering development and test experience with complex integrated electromechanical assemblies.
- Experience with system-level electrical design, including circuit design, system bring-up, integration, and debug.
- Experience specifying components, building schematics, completing board layouts, and integrating designs into opto-electro-mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience with precision soldering, including fine-pitched devices, 0201 and 0402 components, BGA/CSP packages, and power component rework.
- Experience programming parts such as FPGAs and Flash devices and performing scope-based electrical measurements.
- Comfort working with prototypes, schematic design, PCB layout tools, and laboratory test equipment.
- Ability to operate effectively in environments that require adherence to company policies, sound judgment, effective stress management, safe work practices, and respectful collaboration.
- Ability to meet client expectations and standards while safeguarding business operations and reputation.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based in a lab and engineering environment that focuses on prototype development, electrical assembly, and system integration. You will work with hardware setups, PCBs, test equipment such as oscilloscopes, and design software to support system bring-up, integration, and debug. The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, construction, installation, and maintenance to ensure that systems meet specifications, codes, and customer requirements. Work may include time in production or installation settings to inspect completed installations and observe system operations. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to operational standards, thorough documentation, and clear communication of test results and design decisions, with a professional dress code appropriate for lab and technical work settings.
