Job Title: Procurement Leader Job Description
This role leads the procurement function with responsibility for strategic sourcing, supplier management, global purchasing, and inventory and supply planning. You will manage a team of buyers and logistics professionals, develop and refine procurement processes and systems, and drive cost, inventory, and supplier performance improvements. The position combines high-level strategy with hands-on operational decision-making, offers global supplier exposure and international travel, and provides significant cross-functional influence across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Provide procurement leadership by managing an International Buyer and Logistics Manager, setting clear departmental priorities, and developing the teams capabilities.
- Own the strategic sourcing process by identifying, evaluating, negotiating with, selecting, onboarding, and managing domestic and international suppliers.
- Lead supplier performance management, including maintaining and using scorecards, conducting supplier reviews and audits, driving corrective actions, implementing contingency sourcing, and managing supplier exits when necessary.
- Oversee global procurement activities by evaluating landed cost and managing international purchasing considerations such as Incoterms, freight, tariffs, duties, and customs requirements.
- Ensure inventory and material availability by determining what and when to buy through analysis of forecasts, usage, open orders, lead times, inventory levels, and supplier constraints.
- Mitigate supply risk by developing backup suppliers and dual sourcing critical items to protect continuity of supply.
- Maintain strong systems and controls by keeping ERP and procurement records accurate and current, managing approval processes, contracts, supplier files, dashboards, and ensuring audit readiness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Warehouse, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and IT to resolve supply issues and support reliable customer delivery.
- Use advanced data analysis and spreadsheets to monitor procurement performance, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making.
- Travel domestically and internationally to visit suppliers, conduct site visits and audits, and strengthen supplier relationships.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of procurement processes, systems, supplier strategies, and team structure, rather than simply maintaining transactional purchasing activities.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in supply chain, business, engineering, operations, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain.
- Direct experience managing buyers or a purchasing team.
- 3+ years leading people, projects, suppliers, or procurement programs.
- Domestic and international purchasing experience.
- Working knowledge of Incoterms, imports and customs processes, duties, tariffs, freight, and landed cost.
- Proven strategic sourcing and competitive bidding experience.
- Experience in supplier qualification and onboarding.
- Experience conducting supplier site visits and audits.
- Strong supplier negotiation and performance management skills.
- ERP system experience in a procurement or supply-chain context.
- Advanced spreadsheet and data-analysis capability.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 1020% of the time.
- Valid passport or the ability to obtain one.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years of procurement or supply-chain experience.
- Background in industrial distribution or manufacturing.
- Professional certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, or similar.
- Experience with Acumatica ERP.
- Hands-on experience designing and using supplier scorecards.
- Inventory planning experience.
- Experience with contract administration and procurement-related agreements.
- Exposure to procurement automation tools or initiatives.
- Freight, logistics, or product-related experience.
- Experience with ethical sourcing, ESG initiatives, or supplier codes of conduct.
- Proficiency in a relevant second language.
