About this role
Your next coworker might sneeze directly into your face and then look delighted to see you.
Another might supervise from the top of the refrigerator. Neither will respect your personal space. Both could become the best part of your day.
Charleston Dog Walker has been caring for local pets since 2015. We’re hiring part-time dog walkers and pet sitters for weekday midday visits. If getting to know a dog’s favorite route—or finally earning a cat’s approval—sounds like a satisfying way to spend part of your week, keep reading.
You love the animals. You notice the details.
A dog seems quieter than usual. A water bowl needs washing. The feeding instructions don’t match what’s on the counter.
You notice, ask questions, and check with your manager instead of guessing. The cat may insist she gets three dinners. You verify with a human.
A few things need to line up:
- Your schedule: Consistent midday availability on at least three weekdays, ideally Monday–Friday. Our main need is around 11 a.m.–3 p.m., but you don’t need the full window; hours like 11–1 or 10–2 can work. Additional mornings, evenings, and weekends are welcome alongside midday coverage.
- Your location: You must currently live in James Island, Downtown Charleston, Johns Island, Folly Beach, or Avondale. Address eligibility is confirmed during hiring; commuting from outside our service area doesn’t qualify. You’ll drive between homes and may have assignments throughout the service area.
- Your plans: You want an ongoing role for at least six months, ideally much longer. We’d love for you to become a familiar face worth getting off the couch for. High praise, coming from a dog.
The work comes with poop bags. And support.
You’ll walk dogs, care for cats, follow feeding and medication instructions, handle cleanup, secure homes, and send thoughtful visit journals and photos. Your photo subjects may have other plans.
You’ll visit pets independently, with training—including online Pet Emergency Care certification—and a management team you can turn to. We organize your schedule around your stated availability, so you can focus on giving each pet great care.
Affection is lovely. Payroll is also important.
- Part-time W-2 employment.
- $11 per 30-minute visit, plus tips and mileage reimbursement between visits. As a weekly example, five visits a day, Monday–Friday, would earn $275 in visit pay, plus tips and mileage reimbursement. Actual schedules and earnings vary. Payroll is twice monthly.
- You’ll need a reliable vehicle, driver’s license, insurance, and phone, plus a background check before onboarding.
Apply below. We’re looking for thoughtful, dependable people. The dogs asked us to keep an open mind about squirrels, but we do need someone who can drive.
