KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage a portfolio of client accounts and proactively pursue outstanding debt.
- Contact clients by telephone and email to secure payment of overdue invoices.
- Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, including fee earners and support teams.
- Agree appropriate payment arrangements where required and monitor these to ensure payments are received as agreed.

- Review aged debt regularly, prioritising higher-value and higher-risk balances.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date notes of collection activity, payment commitments and disputes.
- Escalate significantly overdue or problematic debts in line with internal procedures.
- Support the preparation and distribution of statements, reminders and other credit control correspondence.
- Allocate or investigate payments and account queries where appropriate.
- Assist with credit checks and the ongoing monitoring of client credit risk.
- Contribute to cash collection and working capital objectives.
- Provide information and updates for debt and working capital reporting.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Finance team to improve processes and the overall effectiveness of credit control.
- Ensure client relationships are handled professionally and sensitively throughout the collection process.

ABOUT YOU

You will ideally have:

- Previous experience in credit control, collections, accounts receivable or a similar finance role.
- Strong communication skills and confidence speaking with clients about outstanding payments.
- Good relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at different levels.
- A professional but persistent approach to debt collection.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy portfolio.

You'll understand that effective credit control isn't simply about chasing invoices. It's about understanding why something hasn't been paid, removing barriers to payment and working with both clients and colleagues to achieve the right outcome.

You'll be approachable and collaborative but equally comfortable having challenging conversations when necessary.

It would be useful, although not essential, if you have experience of:

- Professional services or legal-sector credit control.
- Managing a high-value or complex debtor portfolio.
