About this role
# Job Description Summary
The Hardware Outsourcing Technical Leader serves as the primary technical point of contact for external hardware development partners. This role is responsible for ensuring that all outsourced design work meets internal quality, documentation, and performance standards. Beyond overseeing external technical deliverables, the successful candidate will provide hands-on contributions, performing hardware design, peer reviews, and validation tasks as needed to maintain project momentum. A core mandate of this position is the end-to-end planning of compliance testing, including the seamless coordination and interface with external testing laboratories.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Strategic Oversight: Lead the technical architecture and end-to-end development lifecycle for complex hardware systems, ensuring external partners align with GE Vernova’s rigorous engineering standards.
- Engineering Authority: Serve as the final technical gatekeeper for outsourced designs, conducting critical schematic/PCB reviews and executing hands-on validation to resolve systemic roadblocks.
- Compliance Strategy: Define and execute comprehensive global compliance programs (EMC/EMI, safety, environmental), taking full ownership of certification strategies for international markets.
- Partner Integration: Act as the primary technical interface with global design and testing partners, driving accountability for design maturity, manufacturing readiness, and system-level performance.
- Workflow Optimization: Modernize outsourcing processes by leveraging data-driven insights to identify design inefficiencies and implement standardized documentation workflows.
- Quality Remediation: Lead root-cause analysis and remediation efforts for test failures, ensuring that outsourced hardware meets or exceeds internal performance benchmarks.
- Technical Mentorship: Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence by mentoring cross-functional teams on best practices for hardware design, regulatory compliance, and partner management.
- Advanced Resource Utilization: Integrate emerging digital engineering tools and AI-driven technical databases to accelerate the benchmarking of global regulatory requirements and design best practices.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Hardware Design Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in hardware design, design reviews, and validation within an enterprise environment.
- Compliance Leadership: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience managing compliance testing programs (UL, CE, EMC/EMI) and directing technical strategy with external test facilities.
- Vendor/Outsourcing Management: Minimum of 1 year of experience managing technical deliverables and performance metrics for outsourced design partners or contract manufacturers.
- Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the Canada or Brazil.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Credentials: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering.
- Budget Oversight: Experience managing hardware R&D budgets or external development contracts exceeding $1M annually.
- Certification: Active Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification in technical program management.
- Domain Expertise: In-depth knowledge of global energy infrastructure hardware standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, UL 1741).
- Scalability Experience: Proven track record of managing 3+ concurrent global development projects while maintaining 100% compliance with quality and timeline milestones.
- Process Excellence: Demonstrated ability to implement design or manufacturing process improvements that resulted in a quantifiable reduction in time-to-market or production costs.
- Design Tools: Advanced proficiency in PCB design workflows (e.g., Altium, Cadence) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Team Leadership: 3+ years of experience leading, coaching, or managing cross-functional engineering teams of 5+ individuals.
- Stakeholder Influence: Demonstrated success in acting as a strategic bridge between internal R&D stakeholders and external manufacturing/lab ecosystems.
