About this role
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Inverter Product Development Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on the development and continuous improvement of inverter technologies for advanced automotive powertrain applications. You will support prototype builds, investigate production-related issues, drive cost reduction initiatives, update engineering drawings, and maintain engineering documentation that supports both product development and manufacturing. Working under the guidance of a Senior Engineer and in close collaboration with global design teams, you will help ensure that inverter products meet performance, quality, and cost targets throughout the product lifecycle. Responsibilities
- Plan and manage engineering activities for multiple inverter-related projects to ensure objectives are achieved within defined timelines.
- Facilitate accurate and timely technical communication for inverter programs between U.S. design teams, manufacturing sites, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with U.S. and Japan Design Engineering organizations on existing design improvements, performance validation, and production launch activities for xEV inverters used in various automotive powertrain applications.
- Create and update 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, CAE data, and other technical specifications needed to support product design and engineering changes.
- Maintain and revise bills of material (BOM) and schematic drawings to ensure that product configurations are accurate and up to date.
- Provide on-site engineering support at inverter manufacturing locations during prototype, sample, and mass production phases, addressing technical issues as they arise.
- Support product validation testing, including prototype builds and tests, and complete engineering deliverables required during the development phase of the product lifecycle.
- Investigate and help resolve production-related issues to improve manufacturability, reliability, and product performance.
- Support and drive cost reduction activities aimed at lowering production costs while maintaining or improving product quality.
- Contribute to new product development efforts by applying mechanical design principles and collaborating with cross-functional teams to introduce new inverter models into production.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 1 year of experience in 3D mechanical design.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D design and modeling.
- Experience with mechanical design for complex products, ideally within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to create and interpret 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
- Familiarity with bill of material (BOM) structures and documentation.
- Ability to read and work with schematic drawings.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills to manage multiple projects and tasks within defined timelines.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, manufacturing sites, and suppliers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 5 or more years of mechanical design experience, preferably in automotive or related industries.
- Basic knowledge of electrical design concepts as they relate to inverter and electronics packaging.
- Experience with CATIA for 3D design and modeling.
- Experience with other 3D design software and CAE tools.
- Experience in new product development, particularly for automotive or electronic components.
- Experience supporting product validation testing and prototype builds.
- Experience working on cost reduction initiatives in a production environment.
- Ability to work effectively with international engineering teams across different locations.
Work Environment This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with three days onsite and two days remote each week. Initial training may take place fully onsite for the first few weeks to provide hands-on exposure to the products, processes, and team. You will work closely with a dedicated Design Engineering team located at a large automotive manufacturing site, with direct input into design changes and new inverter models entering production. The facility environment is typical of a modern manufacturing and engineering operation, combining office-based design work with periodic visits to the production floor and test areas. Travel is generally limited but you may occasionally visit locations such as Michigan or supplier sites to support engineering activities, prototype builds, or production launches. The role involves regular use of CAD and other engineering software tools, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and engagement in a fast-paced, innovation-focused culture with potential for long-term employment based on performance.
