Job Title: Senior Test Engineering Manager Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Test Engineering Manager to lead the manufacturing test engineering efforts for complex, large-scale electromechanical systems. This position involves providing both people leadership and technical direction for an organization responsible for electrical, pressure, controls, and automated testing. The role does not involve individual-contributor engineering, but rather focuses on developing engineering talent, supporting hiring and workforce planning, setting technical priorities, managing resources, and providing hands-on technical leadership during complex problems or production escalations.
Responsibilities
- Lead testing involving high-voltage electrical systems, low-voltage controls, pressure/leak testing, safety systems, and automated test solutions.
- Drive Design for Testability, NPI readiness, test equipment validation, failure analysis, and continuous improvement of test performance.
- Develop scalable testing strategies for complex systems.
- Influence product testability early in the NPI process.
- Solve challenging manufacturing and test problems rather than maintaining mature processes.
- Support technically complex programs associated with large-scale infrastructure systems.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 8+ years of progressive manufacturing test engineering experience.
- 5+ years of substantial leadership experience involving engineers, technicians, technical projects, or engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor engineers.
- Experience leading complex manufacturing test operations.
- Strong understanding of electrical and safety-critical testing.
- Experience with high-voltage systems and/or pressure-based testing systems.
- Test automation/programming or scripting knowledge.
- Experience supporting NPI and manufacturing ramp.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Effective communication with engineering, operations, quality, Senior leadership, and customers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Pressure vessel or pressure-system experience.
- Low-voltage switchgear experience.
- Data center infrastructure/product experience.
- PLC/control-system knowledge.
- Python/C/C++ experience.
- Large-form assembly testing.
- Test equipment/fixture development.
- GR&R and equipment validation.
- UL/IEC requirements.
- Capital equipment/budget management.
- Advanced engineering degree.
Work Environment
The role is set in a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment currently experiencing significant growth and ramp activity. The position involves large-scale electromechanical products, integrating electrical, controls, and pressure/fluid systems, and requires collaboration with Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, NPI teams, and customers. The environment demands strategic engineering leadership and day-to-day escalation management, with flexibility and additional effort needed during critical production, launch, and transfer periods. It is best suited for someone comfortable with change, urgency, and building structure while the operation evolves.
