About this role
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Volvo Autonomous Solutions US is hiring a Carrier Sales Manager to build and run the carrier desk that covers our time-sensitive freight. You will manage high stakes cargo ranging from perishables and pharmaceuticals to just in time automotive parts and expedited loads where there is zero room for a missed appointment. This is a true working manager role. You will start by hands on covering freight yourself, then recruit, hire, and grow the team around you, directly shaping how this desk operates from day one. As the desk scales, you will gain direct reports and build a foundational pillar of our logistics network alongside autonomous trucking lanes.
What You Will Do
You will stand up the carrier sales function from the ground up by setting workflows, coverage standards, escalation paths, and after hours coverage. Your structural responsibilities will include establishing carrier onboarding and compliance rules covering authority, insurance, safety, and fraud screening, as well as writing and enforcing protocols for high-value, temperature-controlled, and appointment critical loads. To maintain high-volume velocity, you will set daily coverage priorities so every time-sensitive load moves on time. As an active working manager, you will personally jump into hot loads, escalations, breakdowns, and fall-offs while negotiating spot and contract rates using market data. Your long-term focus will center on building capacity plans for recurring lanes and seasonal peaks, developing a core carrier network, running scorecards, and partnering with the autonomous network team to cover freight around autonomous lanes. Finally, as volume grows, you will hire, onboard, and coach carrier reps and a supervisor, recommend performance scorecards and incentive plans, collaborate with the TMS team on automated tools, and report all operations risks to the Operations Manager.
Who You Are
• You bring 5+ years in carrier sales at a freight brokerage or 3PL, including 2+ years managing a high-volume carrier team.
• Comfortable covering freight yourself while simultaneously hiring and growing your team.
• Possess hands-on experience recruiting, training, and ramping carrier representatives to full productivity.
• Ability to move quickly when lanes, rates, or priorities shift in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience covering freight with tight pickup/delivery windows while setting a fanatical, customer first standard.
• Run your desk strictly on performance numbers, including coverage, gross profit per load, on time service, fall offs, and claims.
• Connected and compliant: Bring an existing carrier network to utilize on day one, alongside a strong grasp of carrier compliance and freight fraud prevention.
• Fluent in at least one TMS plus major load boards like DAT and Truckstop.
Ideal candidates will possess experience launching a new desk, office, or service line within either an established or early-stage company. Hands-on experience using MasterMind TMS by Mastery Logistics Systems is highly preferred. We highly value a specialized freight background in expedited, reefer, pharma, or high-value loads, as well as past experience designing representative scorecards, commission structures, booking automation, or desk level AI tools.
