Position Summary
The 5 Star Cake Decorator is responsible for creating high-quality custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and specialty desserts that deliver an exceptional customer experience. This position combines artistic creativity, decorating expertise, customer service, and food safety knowledge to produce visually appealing and delicious bakery products while maintaining company quality standards and production goals.
Key Responsibilities Cake Decorating & Production
- Decorate cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and specialty desserts according to customer specifications and company standards.
- Design and create custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, graduations, holidays, and other special occasions.
- Utilize a variety of decorating techniques including piping, icing, fondant work, airbrushing, and specialty finishes.
- Ensure all decorated products meet presentation, quality, and taste expectations.
- Maintain production schedules to meet customer pickup and delivery timelines.
Customer Service
- Consult with customers regarding cake designs, flavors, sizes, themes, and special requests.
- Provide recommendations and creative solutions for custom orders.
- Ensure a positive and memorable customer experience through professional communication and service.
- Accurately process and document special orders.
Bakery Operations
- Assist with baking, filling, icing, and finishing bakery products as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels of decorating supplies, ingredients, and packaging materials.
- Maintain organized workstations and storage areas.
- Support daily bakery production and merchandising efforts.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Properly handle, store, and rotate ingredients according to company standards.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Collaborate with bakery team members to achieve production and sales goals.
- Assist in training new decorators on techniques, quality standards, and operational procedures.
- Promote a positive, customer-focused team environment.
- Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to excellence.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous cake decorating, bakery, culinary, or related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cake decorating tools, techniques, and materials.
- Strong artistic ability and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm movements required for decorating activities.
- Ability to bend, reach, twist, and work in refrigerated environments as needed.
