About this role

About our group:

The Sputter Equipment Development Engineering (SpEDE) team at Seagate designs and develops advanced sputter process equipment used in HDD media manufacturing. Our engineers work across mechanical design, vacuum systems, magnetics, thermal engineering, automation, and process integration, taking ideas from concept through simulation, prototyping, testing, and deployment into production.

As an intern, you’ll join a collaborative engineering team that values strong fundamentals, curiosity, and learning by doing. You’ll gain first-hand exposure to how real engineering problems are solved and how theory turns into working equipment

About the role - you will:

As a Mechanical / Engineering Technologist Intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers and be involved in real equipment development activities, including:

• Supporting the mechanical design of parts and sub-systems for high-vacuum sputter equipment

• Assisting with magnetic simulations to model sputter pole designs which includes, identifying appropriate boundary conditions and verify model convergence.

• Learning how simulation results are validated with test and field data, and how gaps are investigated.

• Participating in prototype builds, equipment integration, and engineering tests

• Helping to collect, organize, and analyze engineering test or performance data

• Preparing engineering documentation, reports, and presentations

• Collaborating with mechanical, magnetic, process, and manufacturing engineers on cross-functional tasks

About you:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

• Good understanding of mechanical engineering or Physics fundamentals

• Exposure to 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar)

Your experience includes:

• Hands-on experience with industrial and high-vacuum equipment development

• Practical exposure to thermal simulation and data-driven engineering validation

• Experience working in a professional engineering environment with mentorship

• Insight into how engineers contribute to advanced manufacturing equipment

Location:

Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations. Spread over three sites, it is easily accessible via bus or from the MRT Station, with many employees taking mass transportation to work. Here at work, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks at our onsite canteen and coffee shop. We offer a range of facilities including an in-house gym and dance studio, as well as after-work badminton and table tennis competitions. On-site celebrations and community volunteer opportunities also abound.
