About this role

Our Purpose

TERADYNE, where experience meets innovation and driving excellence in every connection. We are fueled by creativity and diversity of thought and in our workforce. Our employees are supported to innovate and learn something new every day. We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team – one that makes better decisions, drives innovation and delivers better business results.

Universal Robots, part of Teradyne Robotics, is the world market leader in collaborative robots (cobots), making products that empower our customers and positively transform the way they work. Teradyne Robotics is a division of Teradyne and includes Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR). Our global R&D organization of 200+ engineers builds the software and systems behind every cobot we ship.

Opportunity Overview

You will join a team of talented and passionate engineers developing, testing, and optimizing the software and systems that let us simulate our robot platforms and train the AI models that run on them.

As a Dataset Engineer on the Simulation team, you will design, generate, and curate the large-scale synthetic and real-world datasets that power perception, manipulation, and navigation models for UR cobots and MiR mobile robots. You will own the journey from scenario and randomisation design through generation, annotation, validation, and delivery to ML teams.

This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of simulation, computer vision, and data engineering. You will work with synthetic data tools such as Omniverse Replicator and Isaac Sim, scalable data pipelines, and ML workflows, and collaborate closely with research scientists, ML engineers, simulation engineers, and the wider R&D organization in Denmark and Bangalore.

Your responsibilities and tasks include:

- Design synthetic data generation pipelines, including scene composition, sensor configuration, and domain randomisation of lighting, materials, poses, clutter, and camera parameters.

- Build scalable pipelines to generate, process, store, and version terabyte-scale datasets.

- Define dataset specifications, schemas, and annotation formats together with ML engineers and research scientists.

- Analyse dataset statistics, coverage, class balance, and bias, and identify and close gaps.

- Combine and align synthetic and real-world data, and support sim-to-real evaluation of trained models.

- Implement automated quality checks for labels, annotations, and data integrity.

- Build curation, search, and sampling tools that help teams find the right data quickly.

- Maintain dataset documentation, lineage, and catalogues so datasets are discoverable and reproducible.

- Work with real robot data, including camera, depth, LiDAR, and robot state streams.

- Write clean, well-tested, and documented code, and participate actively in code reviews to uphold engineering standards across the team.

- Partner with ML and application teams to translate model performance issues into targeted data improvements.

All About You

We seek individuals who share our passion and determination. Our commitment to customer success drives us to go the extra mile. If you're ready to join us in this mission, take a closer look at the minimum criteria for the position.

We value diversity in culture, competence, and experience. We expect you to bring a number of qualifications to be considered for this role.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Computer Vision, Robotics, or a related technical field.

- 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, ML data pipelines, or computer vision datasets.

- Strong programming proficiency in Python, including NumPy, pandas, and OpenCV.

- Solid understanding of computer vision tasks such as object detection, segmentation, and pose estimation.

- Experience with annotation formats such as COCO, YOLO, or KITTI.

- Experience with cloud storage and distributed data processing (Spark, Ray, Dask, or similar).

- Familiarity with data versioning and ML training and evaluation workflows.

- Comfortable working in a Linux environment with version control, automated testing, and modern development workflows.

Proficiency required in at least four of the following qualifications:

- Synthetic data tools such as NVIDIA Omniverse Replicator, Isaac Sim, BlenderProc, or Unity Perception.

- OpenUSD scene representation and 3D asset handling.

- Domain randomisation and sim-to-real transfer techniques.

- Robotics datasets for manipulation, navigation, or multi-sensor fusion.

- PyTorch and hands-on model training and evaluation.

- Data versioning and curation tools such as DVC, LakeFS, FiftyOne, or Voxel51.

- SQL and data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake.

- Point cloud and 3D data processing (Open3D, PCL).

- Annotation tools and human-in-the-loop labelling workflows.

- ROS2 bag files and time-series sensor data handling.

- Dataset bias, fairness, and coverage analysis.
