About this role
Maersk is looking for a Senior Terminal Solution Manager to own how a port complex performs for its customers, bringing terminals, ocean operations, towage, pilots and agents together. You’ll lead the Hub/Terminal Solution team, keep the terminal fluid and cargo moving, and take charge locally when disruption hits. Beyond today’s operation, you’ll help shape tomorrow’s terminal organisation using data and technology. It’s ideal for a marine or terminal professional (seafaring background a plus) who is ready to lead, influence and rethink how things are done.
Shape how our port complex performs — today and tomorrow
Maersk connects and simplifies global trade, and every vessel call depends on how well our ocean operations, terminals and port partners work together. As Senior Terminal Solution Manager, you'll be the person who makes that connection work for our customers.
You'll take a holistic view of the port complex, bringing together terminals, ocean operations, towage, pilots, agents and our own Area and Fulfilment teams. Your aim is simple: keep cargo moving, keep the terminal fluid and deliver on our customer promise.
This isn't purely an operational role. Alongside running today's operation, you'll help us rethink how operational expertise, planning, data and technology come together in tomorrow's terminal organisation.
What will you be doing:
- Own the customer and operational experience across the assigned terminal and wider port complex
- Take accountability for port-complex performance across terminals, towage, pilots, agents and other partners, improving both performance and cost to serve
- Lead execution planning and longer-term design planning, securing customer outcomes and asset capabilities
- Shape yard and gate strategies with Area and Fulfilment teams to keep the terminal fluid and cargo moving
- Safeguard asset turnaround and connections, getting to the root cause when performance drifts and turning insights into lasting improvements
- Coordinate the local response to major disruptions, strikes and vessel or cargo incidents, working with crisis-management stakeholders
- Bring the right people together to solve customer pain points across the port journey
- Lead, develop and strengthen the Hub/Terminal Solution team
- Spot opportunities for business growth and closer collaboration with our terminal partners
- Help design the future set-up of the function, using data, technology and new ways of working
Who we are looking for
We're looking for a leader with deep roots in the marine world — someone who understands how vessels, terminals and the wider port ecosystem interact, and who pairs that knowledge with strategic thinking and genuine curiosity about how operations can work better. A purely freight-forwarding background, without marine or ocean exposure, won't give you the foundation this role needs.
- Significant experience in shipping, ocean operations, marine or terminal operations
- Strong operational knowledge of the wider port ecosystem, from berth to gate
- Leadership or people-management experience, with a track record of achieving results through others
- Excellent stakeholder management across functions and with external partners
- Strategic thinking, with the ability to look beyond today's operation and help design future ways of working
- Confidence making independent decisions in complex, high-pressure situations
- A customer-focused mindset, turning customer pain points into practical operational improvements
- Comfort with digital solutions and data, and real curiosity about how they can improve operations — you don't need to be a technologist
- A continuous-improvement mindset; Lean knowledge or practitioner experience is an advantage
Seafaring experience is highly valued, especially combined with later shore-based shipping or terminal roles. We're equally interested in people who have built comparable marine and operational depth through their careers ashore.
The leadership we value
You stay calm when the port is under pressure and give your team and partners clear direction. You build trust with people you don't manage — terminal operators, marine service providers, colleagues across the Area — and you're willing to question how things have always been done. You develop your team so they can take on more, while staying close enough to the operation to know what's really happening on the quay.
