SAP TM Functional / Techno-Functional Consultant | Mostly Remote – Barcelona

Some SAP TM roles focus on configuring existing processes; this one gives you the opportunity to define how complex transportation operations should work, from business requirements and solution architecture to implementation and integration.

You’ll work on SAP Transportation Management (TM) , helping shape end-to-end logistics processes across transportation planning and optimization, freight charges and settlements, upstream integrations and ocean transportation . The role combines functional consulting, solution design, business process architecture and technical coordination , with a strong focus on translating complex business needs into practical SAP solutions.

This is a 12-month project with possible extension , offering a mostly remote working model with occasional onsite presence in Barcelona . Candidates must reside in Barcelona or the surrounding area , and English is the working language .

🎯 Mission of the role

Your mission will be to design, define and guide the implementation of SAP Transportation Management solutions , ensuring that complex logistics and transportation requirements are translated into effective, scalable and integrated business processes.

You’ll act as a key connection between business stakeholders, functional consultants, technical teams and solution architecture , taking ownership of requirements analysis, process design, functional specifications and solution alignment.

The objective is to deliver end-to-end SAP TM solutions covering transportation planning, optimization, freight settlement, upstream integrations and ocean transportation, while identifying opportunities for process improvement, custom development and third-party integration.

💡 What your day-to-day will look like in this project

▫️ Gather and analyze business and functional requirements directly with client stakeholders.

▫️ Lead blueprint sessions, discovery workshops and functional discussions to understand transportation processes and identify solution requirements.

▫️ Design and define custom SAP TM business processes , adapting standard capabilities to specific operational needs.

▫️ Contribute to SAP TM solution architecture , defining functional approaches and integration requirements from the client's perspective.

▫️ Work across key SAP TM subprocesses, including Planning & Optimization, Charges & Settlements, upstream payload processing and Ocean transportation .

▫️ Translate business requirements into functional specifications that can be understood and implemented by technical development teams.

▫️ Guide and coordinate functional and technical SAP consultants throughout solution design, development and implementation.

▫️ Evaluate and recommend third-party tools and integration solutions when standard SAP capabilities do not fully address business requirements.

▫️ Support integration scenarios involving external transportation and logistics platforms, potentially including OpenText, Transporeon and CASS .

▫️ Collaborate with solution architects, ABAP developers and business stakeholders to ensure that functional designs are technically feasible and aligned with project objectives.

▫️ Support the validation of implemented solutions, helping ensure that business processes, integrations and custom developments meet the agreed requirements.

▫️ Contribute to resolving complex functional and techno-functional issues across the SAP TM landscape .

🌱 What will help you succeed in this position

You’ll feel comfortable here if you bring at least 5 years of SAP experience , including a minimum of 3 years working with SAP Transportation Management (TM) in a strong functional or techno-functional consulting capacity.

The key differentiator will be your ability to understand transportation business processes, define solutions and guide implementation teams , rather than focusing exclusively on technical development.

You should have solid knowledge of the main SAP TM subprocesses , particularly Planning & Optimization, Charges & Settlements, upstream payload integrations and Ocean transportation .

Experience conducting client workshops, requirements-gathering sessions and blueprint activities will be essential, together with the ability to translate business needs into functional specifications and solution architecture .

You’ll also need the confidence to guide functional and technical consultants , evaluate alternative approaches and recommend suitable third-party tools when custom processes or integrations are required.

Additional knowledge that will help you stand out includes:

- Experience with third-party logistics and integration platforms such as OpenText, Transporeon or CASS.
- Working in complex logistics or transportation-intensive SAP environments .
- Exposure to SAP S/4HANA on-premise landscapes .
- Understanding of end-to-end transportation lifecycle and order-to-cash processes .
- Technical awareness of SAP ABAP on HANA, SAP RAP, CDS Views, SAP Fiori In-App Extensibility and SAP TM PPF .
- Familiarity with SAP BRIM, SAP BTP APIs and integration scenarios .
- Knowledge of debugging and performance optimization in HANA-based environments.

These technical capabilities are valuable, but hands-on ABAP development is not a mandatory requirement . The priority is finding someone with strong SAP TM functional expertise, solution design capabilities and the ability to connect business requirements with technical delivery .

As the project requires occasional onsite collaboration, you must be based in Barcelona or the surrounding area and be comfortable working in English .
