About this role
The Realtime Quant Frameworks team builds the workflow orchestrator at the heart of G-Research's compute. Users describe the work they want done and trust us to run it, while we abstract away the infrastructure and scale underneath. That places us on the critical path of quant research. At this scale, simple things become hard: keeping orchestration performant as workflows grow, keeping the service resilient when something goes wrong and showing users their progress in real time. Our work also covers the libraries and APIs that quants use every day, the real-time user interface and its backend service, and observability. A strongly typed domain model is central to everything we build, and we lean heavily on property-based and model-based testing. We use AI coding agents extensively, and types and tests are how we check their work. Our stack includes F# for core services, Python and .NET SDKs, a TypeScript/React interface, Postgres and Kubernetes. We are a co-located, growing team and our users sit close by, so you will see the impact of what you build almost immediately. We agree goals with our users and decide how to meet them. Process is light and you own what you ship. We share a weekly support rota, and out-of-hours calls are rare. Who are we looking for? The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience: Enjoys hard, open-ended problems and sees them through to a solution you'd stand behind Designs APIs to be hard to misuse, while still caring about users and convenience Thinks carefully about what a system guarantees when things fail Has built production systems at scale and knows what it takes to keep them reliable and performant Measures before optimising and builds systems that report when they are unhealthy Can explain a hard trade-off clearly to quants, infrastructure engineers and non-specialists Experience writing serious code in a functional language (F#, OCaml, Haskell, Scala, Rust or similar) is beneficial, or a keen interest in learning one We are hiring at any level and can teach you the language, as how you think about correctness, failure and design matters most. You don't need to have all of the above AI is part of how every team here works, accelerating thinking and delivering impact. All colleagues are expected to bring AI into their daily workflows.
