About the Role
Qnity is seeking a Associate Quality Engineer to support contract manufacturing quality operations across the Asia-Pacific region. This role applies foundational quality engineering methods to customer complaints, nonconformances, Restricted Shipment Authorization (RSA) requests, supplier corrective actions, quality records, process qualification, and performance reporting. You will work with Quality, contract manufacturers, suppliers, Sales, Customer Service, Supply Chain, and technical teams to protect customers, maintain production flow, and support capacity growth.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the regional Manufacturing Quality Engineer while independently completing defined quality engineering assignments, analyzing data, supporting product disposition, and driving timely follow-through on investigations and qualification activities.
What You’ll Do
- Support and lead defined portions of customer complaint investigations for contract-manufactured products by collecting and analyzing records, samples, inspection results, and other required evidence.
- Apply structured problem-solving methods with contract manufacturers to support root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and customer-ready 8D reports; maintain complaint records in Salesforce (SFDC).
- Review RSA requests, confirm defect classification and inspection evidence, route requests for approval, and coordinate with Sales or customers when needed.
- Manage nonconformances involving metal blanks, machined parts, semi-finished products, packaging, and compounds; issue and track corrective action requests and SCARs.
- Monitor corrective-action commitments, verify closure evidence, and maintain complete, accurate, and traceable quality records.
- Analyze yield and nonconformance performance across contract manufacturers; identify trends and prepare monthly updates for Quality and business leadership.
- Coordinate suspect-material returns and investigations between contract manufacturers, suppliers, laboratories, and manufacturing sites.
- Evaluate inspection results and support documented incoming inspection and supplier quality decisions to reduce unnecessary rejection and production interruption.
- Assist with supplier onboarding, pre-production quality audits, equipment and process qualification, and new manufacturing or capacity-expansion projects.
- Participate in cross-functional improvement activities focused on defect prevention, material utilization, supply continuity, and customer satisfaction.
What You Bring
Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant technical education and experience will be considered.
Experience: one to three years of experience in manufacturing, product quality, supplier quality, process engineering, or a related technical role. Relevant internship or co-op experience may be considered.
- Experience documenting nonconformances and applying or supporting structured investigations, risk assessment, or corrective actions.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, inspection results, capability data, and quality records with strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across cultures, functions, and external organizations.
- Ability to organize multiple priorities, follow actions to closure, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data analysis or reporting tools; ability to summarize technical findings clearly.
- Ability and willingness to travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers as business needs require.
- Speak Japanese and English comfortably
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 8D, 5 Why, fishbone analysis, RCFA, CAPA, or SCAR processes.
- Experience supporting contract manufacturers, suppliers, customer complaints, or special product-release decisions.
- Familiarity with Salesforce, SAP, or electronic quality management systems.
- Experience in elastomer, semiconductor, precision machining, advanced materials, or another high-technology manufacturing environment.
- Lean or Six Sigma training or certification.
What Success Looks Like
- Customer complaints, RSAs, SCARs, and nonconformances are progressed promptly with complete and accurate evidence.
- Quality issues are appropriately classified, unnecessary rejection is reduced, and product or supply decisions are supported by documented facts.
- Contract-manufacturer quality performance is visible through reliable monthly yield and nonconformance reporting.
- Qualification and capacity-growth projects receive timely quality support without compromising customer or QMS requirements.
Why This Role Matters
This position strengthens quality coverage for a growing contract manufacturing network. Your work will help protect customers, improve response time, sustain manufacturing flow, capture appropriate product-release opportunities, and support the qualifications required for future capacity growth.
