Your Journey with Us

Deloitte Malta is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Manager in Economics Advisory to join its Strategy & Transactions team. This is an opportunity for an established economist with strong professional credentials, a deep understanding of the Maltese economy and the ability to translate complex economic analysis into practical, high-impact business and policy insights.

The successful candidate will bring a strong analytical foundation, ideally combining an economics background with an accounting qualification or degree, alongside a proven track record of advising businesses, investors, public-sector institutions and other stakeholders on complex economic, financial and strategic matters.

How You will Make an Impact

As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in strengthening Deloitte Malta’s Economics Advisory offering, leading high-profile engagements, cultivating senior client relationships and contributing to the firm’s continued growth in the market.

Your main tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Lead economic advisory engagements: Direct complex assignments involving economic impact assessments, macroeconomic and sectoral analysis, feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis, market assessments, economic modelling and strategic business case development.
- Provide strategic insights: Translate economic trends, policy developments, regulatory changes and market dynamics into actionable recommendations for corporate clients, investors, government entities and other institutions.
- Leverage local market expertise: Apply an in-depth understanding of Malta’s economic structure, key industries, fiscal and public policy environment, competitiveness and growth drivers to deliver relevant, evidence-based advice.
- Drive business development: Identify market opportunities, develop compelling proposals, build a strong client pipeline and contribute to the expansion of Deloitte Malta’s Economics Advisory practice.
- Build trusted client relationships: Engage confidently with C-suite executives, board members, public-sector leaders and other senior stakeholders, serving as a credible adviser on complex economic and strategic issues.
- Lead and develop teams: Manage multidisciplinary project teams, oversee analytical quality and delivery, mentor colleagues and foster a high-performance, collaborative working environment.
- Contribute to market thought leadership: Develop economic insights, publications and perspectives that strengthen Deloitte’s reputation as a leading adviser on Malta’s economic and business landscape.
- Collaborate across service lines: Work closely with colleagues in Strategy & Transactions and other Deloitte practices, integrating economic analysis with financial, commercial and strategic considerations to deliver holistic client solutions.

Let’s Talk About You

We are looking for a seasoned professional who combines technical economic expertise, commercial acumen and the credibility to operate effectively at senior stakeholder level.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

- Relevant professional experience: Significant experience in economics advisory, economic consulting, strategy consulting, financial advisory, public policy, or a comparable analytical and advisory role, with a track record commensurate with Senior Manager level.
- Strong economics foundation: A degree in Economics or a closely related discipline, supported by substantial practical experience applying economic theory, quantitative methods and analytical frameworks to real-world business and policy challenges.
- Accounting and financial literacy: A degree in Accounting or a recognised accounting qualification, or an equivalent combination of accounting, financial analysis and commercial experience. The ability to connect economic insights with financial performance, valuation, investment decisions and business strategy will be particularly valuable.
- Knowledge of the Maltese economy: A strong understanding of Malta’s macroeconomic environment, principal economic sectors, labour market, public finances, regulatory landscape and competitive positioning. Familiarity with the local institutional and business environment is essential.
- Credible professional credentials: A demonstrable record of achievement, supported by relevant qualifications, professional memberships, recognised expertise, published work or a portfolio of significant advisory engagements. Experience within a reputable professional services firm, economic consultancy, financial institution, government institution or international organisation would be an advantage.
- Advanced analytical capability: Experience in economic modelling, quantitative analysis, forecasting, impact assessment and the interpretation of complex datasets, with the ability to communicate findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset: The ability to identify client needs, shape advisory solutions, contribute to revenue growth and develop long-term business relationships.
- Leadership and communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, sound judgement, strong project management capabilities and the confidence to challenge assumptions and influence senior decision-makers.

A postgraduate qualification in Economics, Applied Economics, Finance, Public Policy or a related field would be an advantage. Relevant professional designations, research credentials and experience working with international or EU institutions would also be valued.
