About this role
OVERVIEW
Axiom Space is a human space exploration company, building era-defining space infrastructure and delivering technology-driven solutions that will empower civilization to transcend Earth. Beginning with Axiom Station, successor to the International Space Station, the company is pioneering a next-generation orbital settlement that will foster groundbreaking innovation and research in microgravity and drive the global space economy of tomorrow. Today, guided by the vision of leading humanity's expansion off planet, Axiom Space is the principal provider of commercial human spaceflight services and developer of advanced spacesuits for the Moon and beyond. Axiom Space fosters a work environment inclusive of all perspectives. We are the pioneers of commercial space, leading the transformation of low-Earth orbit into a global space marketplace. Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Program Integration Project Manager who is fueled by high accountability, execution horsepower, and driven to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, for the benefit of all on Earth and beyond.
POSITION SUMMARY
Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Program Integration Project Manager to join our team of engineers in Safety and Mission Assurance to ensure the safety of our crew and the success of our space missions.
PROGRAM INTEGRATION OFFICE (PIO) OVERVIEW:
The Program Integration Office serves as the enterprise "mission/service integrator" within the Mission & Commercial Services organization. The PIO is the accountability hub for cross-organizational integration that no single program, platform, or functional team can own alone.
Its primary purpose is to convert customer-facing intent—including contract scope, promised outcomes, and margin assumptions—into a single, coherent, and executable integrated enterprise plan. The PIO owns and maintains the Axiom Project Life Cycle, ensuring that all four primary value streams—Commercial LEO Destinations, Human Spaceflight Missions, Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Services, and In-Space Compute Services—are synchronized with the technical development of our hardware platforms.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Integration Project Manager is a senior program management professional responsible for the end-to-end integration of Axiom’s service commitments. Reporting to the Vice President of Mission & Commercial Services , the candidate will ensure that everyone’s work, from engineering and technology development to mission operations, fits together into a deliverable whole that meets customer milestones on cost and on schedule. This role is onsite at the Space Station Development Facility (SSDF).
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Integrated Planning & Baselining
- Build and maintain the Integrated Master Plan (IMP) and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for major service delivery missions.
- Drive a single enterprise baseline that ties together customer commitments, platform capability availability (readiness/configuration), and mission/ops readiness.
- Incorporate resource-loading into the planning model to ensure project viability and profitability.
2. Cross-Organizational Interface Management
- Act as the primary bridge between Mission Services and the Platform Development organization (Internal Supplier).
- Translate value-stream demand into "capability pull" packages, defining what technical thresholds and configurations are required and by when.
- Negotiate and lock Capability Delivery Agreements to ensure verification status and known limitations are understood across organizations.
3. Execution Control & Risk Mitigation
- Lead Integrated Execution Reviews to monitor schedule health, identify critical path constraints, and drive recovery actions.
- Serve as the "Single Source of Truth" for cross-program dependencies and technical/operational interfaces.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate enterprise risks that threaten performance or profit margins on service delivery.
4. Life Cycle Oversight & Change Management
- Institutionalize and manage stage-gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, ORR, MRR equivalents) throughout the pre-launch to operations lifecycle.
- Lead the change-control intake process for any modifications affecting customer commitments, enterprise resources, or platform readiness.
- Support the VP of Mission & Commercial Services in evaluating project performance and determining when to redirect or terminate efforts based on risk and alignment.
Key Strategic Distinctions
- The "Pull" vs. "Push" Dynamic: The PIM is responsible for translating Value Stream demand into a "Capability Pull" . This prevents the Platform Development organization from delivering technology that does not align with specific customer commitments.
- Integration vs. Engineering: While Systems Engineering owns the technical architecture (integrity of the requirements), the PIO owns the execution integration (closing the commitments).
- Mission Readiness: The PIM ensures the entire enterprise is ready so that Mission Ops can succeed during the "fly" portion of the "Plan-Train-Fly" lifecycle.
EXPERIENCE & INDUSTRY BACKGROUND
- Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience in Program/Project Management within the aerospace, defense, or complex technology industries.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale integration for multi-year missions or complex hardware/software systems.
- Deep expertise in the "Tradecraft" of Program Management , specifically in Integrated Master Scheduling (IMS), Earned Value Management (EVM), and Risk Management.
- Experience in a "Customer-Facing" role within a for-profit service delivery model is highly preferred.
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Aerospace, or a related technical field is required.
- Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or Program Management is strongly preferred.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or PgMP (Program Management Professional) certification (preferred but not required)
.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- The "Integrator" Mindset: Ability to synthesize data from engineering, finance, and operations into a coherent narrative.
- Conflict Resolution: Skilled at negotiating between "Capability Pull" (Services) and "Capability Push" (Platform Development).
- Strategic Visibility: Ability to identify unfavorable variances in performance early enough to implement successful mitigation.
Core Skills
- Passion for space and the mission
- Entrepreneurial, growth mindset
- High EQ and ability to collaborate within teams and cross-functionally
- Tech-solutioning in using systems and tools to move smarter and faster
Core Competencies:
Embody our core values of leadership , innovation , and teamwork. In addition, to perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Accountability
- Technical Rigor
- Execution Discipline
- Pride of Delivery
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
Requirements
- This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.
- Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones
Physical Requirements
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)
- May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
