Lead the technical direction and hands-on delivery of enterprise integration modernization across Boomi and Kafka on AWS. As Integration Platform Lead Developer, you will translate business requirements into secure, resilient integration architectures, build critical components, and establish reusable engineering standards adopted across teams. This senior technical individual contributor role extends beyond independent implementation to enterprise architecture influence, cross-team delivery leadership, and development of engineering capability. It is an engineering-led role with production accountability, not a dedicated production-support position. Deep hands-on expertise in both Boomi and Kafka is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Set Boomi and Kafka technical direction across multiple large projects. Align architecture and acceptance criteria with business needs and validate delivered solutions.
- Remain hands-on in designing, developing, reviewing, testing, and deploying complex API-based, application-to-application, file-based, B2B, and event-driven integrations; deliver reference implementations for the most demanding patterns.
- Establish reusable Boomi components, mappings, API contracts, error-handling and recovery patterns, and runtime engineering standards; guide performance optimization and safe deployment practices.
- Lead Kafka engineering on Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK), covering topic and partition strategy, producer and consumer behavior, delivery semantics, Kafka Connect, schema evolution, access controls, capacity, cross-cluster replication, and recovery validation.
- Define engineering quality gates and reusable automation for testing, performance validation, deployment, configuration, rollback, and operational readiness; reduce manual effort through scripting and AWS-based tooling.
- Lead technical delivery across projects: coordinate resources and work allocation, review designs and code, mentor engineers, and manage priorities and deadlines. Resolve cross-team dependencies and adjust scope with business partners.
- Define and review service KPIs, SLA/SLO performance, actionable observability, runbooks, and recovery procedures with service owners. Lead complex Tier-3 troubleshooting, connect availability and performance trends to customer impact, and drive prioritized root-cause corrective actions into engineering backlogs.
- Work independently within agreed authority, owning technical decisions affecting delivery, reliability, resources, and cost. Resolve ambiguous problems through analysis and innovation; recommend solutions to senior leadership and escalate material risks.
- Shape modernization roadmaps through capacity forecasts, cost-of-ownership comparisons, risk analysis, industry trends, and vendor input. Develop prototype environments with business partners, evaluate alternatives, and recommend investments to IT and business leadership. Maintain architecture decisions and engineering documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 7+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree.
OR
9+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years (Master’s = one year, Doctorate = two years) of work experience.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of IT-related work experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 9+ years of IT-related work experience without a bachelor’s degree.
- Deep hands-on Boomi expertise spanning solution architecture, process design, connectors, data mapping and transformation, APIs, automated testing, deployment, performance optimization, and runtime administration, troubleshooting, and recovery.
- Deep hands-on Kafka engineering and production ownership, including partitioning, replication, consumer groups, offsets, delivery semantics, producer and consumer tuning, Kafka Connect, schema compatibility, access controls, capacity planning, and troubleshooting. Experience implementing cross-cluster replication or mirroring and validating recovery procedures is required.
- Ability to independently lead architecture decisions across complex integration and event-streaming workloads with little supervision; use advanced data analysis and sound judgment to resolve incomplete or conflicting information, develop innovative approaches where established patterns are insufficient, and balance security, availability, scalability, recovery, and cost.
- Hands-on AWS experience with integration or streaming workloads and working knowledge of IAM, networking, encryption, and security controls. Amazon MSK experience is preferred; comparable managed Kafka experience is acceptable when combined with AWS proficiency and the ability to transfer that expertise to MSK.
- Strong scripting and automation capability using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or a comparable language; experience establishing repeatable delivery pipelines, automated integration/API tests, performance tests, and release quality gates.
- Experience defining actionable logs, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and service-level objectives; ability to lead complex troubleshooting, recovery planning, and root-cause remediation. Equivalent observability and testing tools are acceptable; specific product brands are not mandatory.
- Technical leadership across multiple large projects, including work allocation, reviews, mentoring, standards, dependencies, and deadlines. Ability to resolve scope conflicts, agree business acceptance criteria, and communicate technical recommendations to engineers and senior leadership.
- Experience with capacity forecasting, cost-of-ownership analysis, and upgrade recommendations; ability to use service KPIs, SLA/SLO trends, and customer impact to prioritize improvements.
- Experience with incident, change, and release management, using Jira, ServiceNow, or equivalent tools; ability to balance delivery commitments with production readiness and sustainable operations.
- Ability to collaborate across a globally distributed team and participate in a defined Tier-3 on-call rotation, including weekday and weekend coverage.
Preferred Qualifications
A master’s degree in an IT-related field and 3+ years on Enterprise projects or programs are preferred. Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful; expertise across all listed technologies is not expected.
- Modernization and partner integration: EDI/RosettaNet, B2B partner onboarding, managed file transfer, or migrations from TIBCO BWCE, TIBCO B2B, Oracle SOA, IBM Sterling MFT, or Informatica Cloud.
- Cloud platform and governance: AWS Glue Schema Registry, Amazon EKS/Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, AWS Well-Architected principles, modern authentication, Zero Trust patterns, API gateways such as Apigee, or Kafka governance tools such as Conduktor.
- Adjacent application and messaging engineering: Java/Spring Boot, Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink, Amazon MQ, RabbitMQ, or TIBCO EMS.
- Developer experience and AI enablement: reusable integration templates, self-service capabilities, developer portals, Boomi Agent Studio, agentic AI, or retrieval-augmented generation for integration and operational use cases.
- Relevant Boomi, AWS, Kubernetes, or Confluent certifications are helpful but not required.
Team and Operating Model
Based in Cork, Ireland, collaborating with teams in San Diego, US, and Hyderabad, India. This hands-on technical-lead role has no people-management responsibility. Own integration architecture, implementation quality, reusable patterns, reviews, and operational readiness; coordinate infrastructure, security approvals, and shared platform changes with accountable teams. Engineering and modernization are primary, with shared weekday/weekend Tier-3 on-call. Work arrangement, time-zone overlap, rotation, coverage, and escalation details will be confirmed during hiring.
Modernization Scope
- Migrate suitable TIBCO BWCE and Oracle SOA workloads to Boomi, using APIs and Kafka-based events where appropriate.
- Modernize EDI/RosettaNet integrations on TIBCO B2B through contemporary B2B patterns and managed partner onboarding.
- Support modernization of IBM Sterling MFT workflows using automated file/event hybrid patterns and governance.
- Support migration of suitable Informatica Cloud jobs to integration, event-driven, or extract-load-transform (ELT) patterns where appropriate.
Expected Outcomes in the First 6 - 12 Months
- Develop a prioritized technical roadmap and ownership boundaries with partner teams; document architecture decisions, dependencies, and key delivery and reliability risks.
- Lead an agreed modernization workload from design through production readiness, with automated tests, deployment and rollback procedures, observability, and operational documentation.
- Deliver reusable Boomi and Kafka reference patterns and quality gates that can be adopted across workstreams.
- Establish agreed service-level and recovery objectives for assigned services, validate relevant recovery procedures, and prioritize improvements using measured baselines.
- Establish a repeatable design-review and knowledge-sharing cadence that strengthens technical consistency and team self-sufficiency.
