About this role

EWOK is Intuit’s enterprise regional failover and disaster recovery platform. It automates failover and recovery workflows across AWS regions so services stay available during regional outages. As a Tier-0 platform, EWOK must keep working when much of the rest of the ecosystem is down. It is evolving from a deterministic recovery tool into an AI-native platform.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the EWOK team, you will design, scale, and operate the platform that underpins Intuit’s enterprise-wide resiliency posture. You will lead technical design across distributed orchestration, cross-region replication, and automated testing frameworks—directly driving down recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) for hundreds of internal services.

Responsibilities

- Utilizes extensive expertise in system engineering, software development, critical thinking, industry best practices, and AI to develop innovative solutions towards building highly available, scalable and reliable platforms.
- Expertly builds, operates, and scales services running on AWS infrastructure.
- Collaborates closely with Intuit Product and Platform Development Teams to plan, prioritize and design highly available cloud architectures.
- Participates in on-call and support rotations, driving incident recovery, resolution and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Resolve defects/bugs during QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patches.
- Use critical thinking skills to debug issues as well as bring to light new problems and solutions to solve.

Qualifications

- Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering production-grade, distributed systems at scale.
- Distributed Systems & Cloud: Deep technical proficiency in AWS core architecture (e.g., IAM, Route 53, Step Functions, DynamoDB, VPC networking, cross-region data replication).
- Software Development: Strong production experience in Python and Go with a focus on concurrency, systems programming, and high-reliability backend services.
- Resiliency & Fault Tolerance: Practical understanding of disaster recovery patterns (Active-Active, Active-Passive), circuit breakers, distributed state management, and chaos engineering principles.
- Modern Engineering Workflow: Proficiency in leveraging modern AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Copilot, LLM agents) to accelerate development while applying deep first-principles debugging and code verification.
- Communication & Leadership: Demonstrated ability to articulate complex technical trade-offs, author clear architecture design documents (ADRs), and influence cross-functional technical decisions.
- Education: BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
