You will create and manage detailed construction documents and shop drawings for electrical conduit systems, ensuring accurate routing, clash detection, and coordination with other trades. The position requires strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and related tools, as well as a solid understanding of electrical construction practices and drafting standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine drafting and modeling assignments that require a thorough knowledge of computer-aided drafting system standards, practices, and techniques.
- Create efficient workflows and quick actions using the command language of BIM and CAD systems to streamline drawing creation and modification.
- Apply mathematical principles to prepare accurate drawings, including calculations needed to support design and construction documentation.
- Develop increased proficiency in BIM and CAD system operation, including learning and effectively using all relevant software options to improve productivity.
- Review work orders, design documents, and procedural manuals to determine critical dimensions and design requirements for electrical systems.
- Calculate figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions specified for production and installation processes, using conversion charts and calculators.
- Focus on drawing, routing, and de-clashing electrical conduit systems in a 3D environment, ensuring proper coordination with other trades.
- Create and manage detailed shop drawings based on verbal instructions and general written direction, translating design intent into clear, buildable documents.
- Create Revit worksheets and effectively use the Revit worksharing process to collaborate with project teams.
- Manipulate Revit families, views, browser structures, sheets, schedules, filters, and similar Revit functions to maintain organized and accurate project models.
- Work fluently in 2D and 3D spaces to produce coordinated plans, sections, and details for electrical construction projects.
- Understand and apply 3D coordination principles with other trades, helping to identify and resolve clashes in BIM models.
- Receive and transmit documents on behalf of the design team, ensuring proper version control and distribution of project information.
- Import documents such as spreadsheets, photos, images, and word processing files into Revit projects to support comprehensive project documentation.
- Read and interpret 2D plans, both electronically and in hard copy, and translate them into accurate 3D models and coordinated drawings.
- Prepare copies and assemble sets of documents for internal teams, field personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Download drawings and project information from web platforms, SharePoint, FTP sites, and other project websites as needed.
- Use plotters, printers, and reproduction systems to produce high-quality printed sets and documentation for project use.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support BIM coordination, electrical drafting, and project delivery.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED with drafting courses required; one to two years of technical training preferred.
- Approximately 5 years of experience in the electrical construction industry with a solid understanding of electrical symbols, drafting conventions, and standards.
- Working experience in electrical drafting or MEP drafting using Revit, with a focus on BIM-based workflows.
- General working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam for drafting, modeling, and document review.
- Proficiency in electrical drafting using 3D modeling software, including BIM, Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
- Ability to create Revit worksheets and an understanding of the Revit worksharing process.
- Ability to take verbal and general written direction and translate it into accurate, working shop drawings.
- Ability to manipulate Revit families, views, browser structures, sheets, schedules, filters, and similar Revit functions.
- Fluency in working in both 2D and 3D drafting and modeling environments.
- Understanding of 3D coordination principles with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
- Ability to receive and transmit documents on behalf of the design team with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Fluency with plotters, printers, and reproduction systems used in the office or on job sites.
