At AECOM, we're delivering infrastructure that creates opportunity for everyone. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Site Civil Engineer to join our Wellington team, with a primary focus on the Te Awa Kairangi (RiverLink) Project – Wellington’s largest and most complex live transport infrastructure construction project.

This role offers a unique combination of major project delivery experience and broader consulting exposure. While the majority of your time will be dedicated to supporting Te Awa Kairangi during construction, you will also contribute to a variety of AECOM's transport, water and infrastructure projects across the Wellington region, including aspects of project and contract management.

Job Description

Why this role?

Few engineers have the opportunity to work on projects that genuinely shape the future of a city. Te Awa Kairangi is a once-in-a-generation investment in infrastructure, delivering significant transport improvements, enhanced flood resilience, better community connections and long-term benefits for the region.

As a Site Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in bringing this landmark project to life. You'll apply your engineering expertise in a challenging live construction environment, working alongside experienced construction, design and client teams to help solve real-world engineering problems and deliver critical infrastructure for future generations.

Beyond Te Awa Kairangi, you'll gain valuable experience supporting AECOM's wider project portfolio, providing opportunities to broaden your technical, commercial and project delivery skills while building relationships across our multidisciplinary business.

This is an opportunity to:

- Contribute to Wellington's largest live transport infrastructure construction project.
- Be part of a project that will leave a lasting legacy for the Wellington region.
- Develop your site engineering expertise on a major infrastructure delivery project.
- Gain exposure to project management and contract administration responsibilities.
- Support a diverse range of transport, three waters and civil infrastructure projects across the region.
- Work alongside industry-leading engineers, project managers and technical specialists.

In this role you will:

- Lead site inspections, ensuring construction meets design, quality and safety standards.
- Inspect civil and structural works, which include underground utilities, drainage, civil structures, retaining walls, buildings and foundations.
- Review ITPs, conduct pre-pour inspections and oversee quality documentation.
- Identify construction challenges and design coordination issues, collaborating with contractors and designers to develop practical solutions and maintain project progress
- Coordinate with project managers, client, design and construction teams within the Alliance as well as key stakeholders and project partners to drive quality delivery.
- Assess design changes, resolve technical challenges and ensure works meet engineering requirements.
- Support and mentor junior engineers, championing best practice across site inspections.
- Promote a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement on site.

Qualifications

The impact you’ll bring

We're looking for a practical, technically capable engineer who understands construction, takes pride in quality and can confidently coordinate with the people responsible for delivering work on site.

You'll ideally bring:

- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- 10+ years experience in site engineering, construction supervision, site inspections and quality assurance on civil infrastructure projects.
- A sound understanding of construction methods, engineering drawings/models, technical specifications and quality assurance processes.
- Experience inspecting concrete, foundations, reinforcement, formwork and structural steel.
- The ability to identify construction issues, assess compliance and coordinate practical solutions with contractors and design teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- A commitment to health, safety, quality and continuous improvement.

We'd particularly value experience in:

- Major infrastructure or complex civil construction projects.
- Reviewing ITPs, conducting pre-pour inspections and preparing site inspection documentation.
