About this role

Some careers have more impact than others.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Business Analyst .

Business: Group DAO

Principal responsibilities

The HK Reference Data Business Analyst role is required to deliver accurate, controlled migration of Customer Reference Data to support the delivery of CDMS HK. You’ll work with business and centralised migration execution teams to support migration activities end-to-end (analysis, mapping, cleansing, testing, reconciliation, cutover support), partnering closely with Technology, Operations, Data Owners, and Change teams to ensure data is complete, consistent, and fit for purpose.  This is an individual contributor role (G5) with no people management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities include some of but not limited to:

Migration analysis & planning

•      Analyse source-to-target data movements for customer reference/master data domains (e.g., customer identifiers, names, addresses, contact details, tax residency indicators, KYC-related reference attributes).

•      Produce and maintain migration deliverables such as data scope, mapping specifications, transformation rules, data lineage notes, and reconciliation approach.

•      Support estimation and sequencing of migration waves; identify dependencies, assumptions, and constraints early.

Data quality, profiling & remediation

•      Perform data profiling to identify duplicates, missing values, invalid formats, and policy breaches.

•      Define and execute cleansing/remediation steps with Data Owners and upstream teams; track issues to closure.

•      Contribute to continuous improvement of data quality controls and repeatable migration playbooks.

Build support (requirements to engineering) & test execution

•      Translate business rules into clear requirements for ETL/configuration teams (or implement lightweight scripts where appropriate).

•      Create test scenarios and test data; execute SIT/UAT support activities focused on data outcomes.

•      Validate transformation logic through evidence-based checks (sampling + automated validations where possible).

Reconciliation, controls & cutover support

•      Run pre- and post-load reconciliations (record counts, key-field checks, exception reports, referential integrity checks).

•      Produce sign-off packs showing migration completeness, accuracy, and exceptions with clear risk statements.

•      Support dress rehearsals and cutover weekend activities, including defect triage and rollback considerations.

Governance, risk & documentation

•      Ensure migration activities meet HSBC control expectations (audit trail, approvals, evidence retention, change controls).

•      Escalate risks/issues promptly with options and impact assessment.

•      Maintain high-quality documentation that can be understood by stakeholders across Hong Kong and global teams.

Stakeholder collaboration

•      Work effectively with Technology, Data Governance, Operations, Compliance/Financial Crime teams, and programme change resources.

•      Communicate progress, blockers, and decisions clearly—especially when trade-offs arise (time vs. quality vs. scope).

Key stakeholders

•      Technology (data engineering/ETL, application teams, testers)

•      Data Owners/Data Stewards

•      Operations/Customer Services teams (where data is originated/maintained)

•      Change/Programme Management

•      Risk & Compliance/Financial Crime (where data impacts controls and screening outcomes)

Requirements

•      Proven experience (typically 3–6 years) as a business and data analyst or similar in a complex, regulated environment (financial services preferred), working with large datasets and multiple data sources.

•      SQL (or equivalent) capability for data extraction, reconciliation and data analysis tasks.

•      Solid understanding of data quality management (profiling, controls, issue root-cause analysis) and working knowledge of data governance concepts (lineage, metadata, critical data elements).

•      Experience translating business requirements into analytical outputs (KPIs, metrics definitions, reporting packs), including documenting requirements and assumptions.

•      Exposure to reference/master data concepts and operating model practices (e.g., data standards, domain ownership, stewardship) is desirable.

•      Familiarity with Agile ways of working (user stories, sprint ceremonies) and collaborating effectively across business, operations and technology teams.

•      Strong communication skills: able to explain complex data findings clearly, challenge constructively, and influence outcomes with evidence.

•      Degree (or equivalent experience) in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics) or demonstrable applied analytical capability.

•      Experience working with operational teams to understand, map and improve end-to-end processes (e.g., SIPOC/process mapping), identifying data pain points, control gaps and opportunities for simplification/automation.

•      Proven involvement in data migration activities (e.g., legacy-to-target mapping, data profiling, transformation rules, reconciliation and post-migration validation), supporting cutover readiness and hypercare where required.

•      Working knowledge of process change governance (impacts, risks, controls, training/adoption considerations) and how process changes affect upstream/downstream data flows and reporting.
