About this role

Job Description

At EDF, Success is Personal. That means your journey is unique to you. Join our Nuclear Technical Engineering Services Industrial Placement and you’ll gain hands-on experience, develop key skills, and help Britain achieve net zero – all while shaping a career that’s truly yours.

"Electricity is such a vital component in everyone’s lives. It powers schools, businesses and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling.” Priyanka, Science and Engineering Industrial Placement.

The Opportunity

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of £26,050 and the chance to work on site at Heysham 1.

You’ll launch your career in Nuclear Technical Engineering Services with our customised training programme. Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience while being mentored by highly skilled professionals.

You’ll help support the work of the Technical Advice Group and be involved in planning and delivering engineering work. You’ll develop skills in fault finding, technical problem solving, and identifying suitable repair strategies to support plant reliability and performance. You'll also gain exposure to the engineering change process, learning how modifications are assessed, governed, and implemented within a highly regulated environment. Along the way, you'll build experience in team working, human performance tools, and plant operations, with opportunities to explore other areas across the station.

What You’ll Experience

During your Nuclear Technical Engineering Services Industrial Placement, you’ll gain an understanding of the role of the Technical Advice Group within a running power station, as well as an understanding of AGR functionality. You’ll learn about systems and processes vital to the safe and effective operation of the station, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies, and IT systems.

You’ll support engineers in investigating plant issues, developing fault-finding techniques, evaluating suitable repair strategies, and contributing to the engineering change process. You'll gain experience in reviewing technical information, supporting the delivery of engineering work packages, and helping ensure modifications and repairs are implemented safely and effectively.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop Planning & Project Management skills and build a professional network to support the successful delivery of work packages.

Your Work Location

You’ll be based on site at Heysham 1 Power Station, within the Technical Advice Group.
