You will prepare data, perform reconciliations, maintain trackers, and support the audits and notices that external consultants and the in-house team handle. This is a hands-on role and a strong starting point for a career in corporate tax, with exposure to both direct and indirect tax and to international tax practices. Key Responsibilities 1. Data and Reconciliations • Extract and clean data from ERP, billing and accounting systems for tax reporting. • Prepare monthly reconciliations: GST books vs. GSTR-2B/GSTR-1, TDS/TCS ledgers vs. returns, and tax payable and receivable balances. • Follow up on mismatches with Finance, Accounts Payable and vendors, and track them to closure. 2. Compliance Support • Prepare working papers and supporting data for returns filed by consultants (GST, TDS, advance tax, and similar). • Maintain the tax compliance calendar and ensure data is shared with consultants on time. • Check challans, payment proofs, and filing acknowledgements, and keep records organised. • Support APAC/EU indirect tax data requests from advisors. 3. Audits, Notices and Refunds • Collate documents and data for tax audits, departmental queries, notices, and refund claims. • Maintain trackers for open notices, refunds, and deadlines. • Prepare first drafts of simple replies for review by the manager. 4. Documentation and Reporting • Maintain files and an audit-ready folder structure for tax filings and positions. • Prepare monthly MIS and dashboards: filing status, ITC and refund status, open items, and aging. • Support the finance close with tax provision workings and reconciliations. • Help document SOPs and checklists. 5. Process and Systems Support • Assist with testing tax codes and configuration in the ERP/billing system and e-invoicing exception checks. • Identify repetitive tasks that can be automated using Excel or other tools. Required Qualifications • Graduate in Commerce (B.Com / M.Com / BBA-Finance), or CA Inter / CMA Inter, or equivalent. CA-qualified or ongoing candidates are welcome. • 1-3 years of experience in taxation, accounting, or a CA/consulting firm (freshers with strong fundamentals and articleship experience may also be considered). • Working knowledge of GST and TDS basics. • Good Excel skills (lookups, pivots, data cleanup, basic formulas). • Attention to detail and a sense of ownership of deadlines. Good to Have • Exposure to income tax, advance tax, or tax audit schedules. • Experience with ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / NetSuite / Tally) and the GST portal. • Knowledge of e-invoicing and vendor reconciliation processes. • Exposure to IT/ITeS, software, or export-oriented businesses. • Familiarity with Power Query, Power BI, or basic automation. Key Competencies • Accuracy and structured working habits. • Clear written and verbal communication with Finance, AP, and external consultants. • Willingness to learn across direct and indirect tax and across geographies. • Reliability, discipline in following deadlines, and respect for confidentiality. Success Measures (First 12 Months) • Monthly reconciliations completed within agreed timelines, with a clean exception list. • Data and documents shared with consultants on time for every filing. • Trackers for notices, refunds, and compliance calendar kept current. • A growing set of SOPs and checklists. • Demonstrated ability to handle one area (for example GST reconciliation or TDS) independently by month 12.
