As a Senior Automation Test Engineer at IBM, you will work with public sector clients to deliver high-quality, secure, reliable, and scalable technology solutions. You will provide specialist expertise in IBM Maximo, test automation, and non-functional testing, supporting complex enterprise asset management systems and critical public sector services. Working closely with clients, developers, architects, and multidisciplinary delivery teams, you will define and implement effective test automation strategies, develop and maintain automated test frameworks, and support performance, load, scalability, and reliability testing. You will identify and mitigate testing risks, analyse results, troubleshoot defects, and drive continuous improvement across testing processes. You will ensure that solutions meet business requirements, technical standards, and operational expectations while supporting the successful delivery of robust digital services within a secure public sector environment. Active Security Check (SC) clearance is required for this role. Proven experience in software testing, test automation, and non-functional testing within complex enterprise IT environments. Strong experience developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks for functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing. Strong knowledge of IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS), Maximo Manage, and enterprise asset management processes, including assets, work orders, preventive maintenance, job plans, inventory, and purchasing. Experience testing Maximo configurations, customisations, automation scripts, workflows, security roles, and business rules. Knowledge of Maximo integrations, REST APIs, web services, and the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF). Experience testing Maximo upgrades, data migrations, system integrations, and end-to-end business processes. Practical experience in performance, load, stress, scalability, and reliability testing using tools such as Apache JMeter or LoadRunner. Experience with automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or equivalent frameworks. Proficiency in SQL, database validation, test data management, application logs, and defect investigation. Ability to analyse test results, identify performance bottlenecks, troubleshoot defects, and collaborate with development, infrastructure, and Maximo technical teams. Experience defining test strategies, test plans, test scenarios, and reporting on quality, risks, and testing outcomes. Ability to act as a Maximo Test Automation SME, providing technical guidance, supporting testing strategy, and promoting best practices. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working in Agile teams and client-facing delivery environments. Experience delivering technology solutions for public sector or regulated clients, with an understanding of security, data protection, and governance requirements. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated testing into DevOps workflows is desirable. Active UK Security Check (SC) clearance required. This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Experience with IBM Maximo Application Suite deployments, upgrades, and migrations, including cloud-based or containerised environments where applicable. Knowledge of Maximo Application Suite components and related capabilities, such as Monitor, Health, Predict, or Mobile, where relevant to the client implementation. Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows using tools such as Jenkins, Git, or equivalent technologies. Familiarity with IBM Maximo Application Suite administration, environment management, and troubleshooting across development, test, staging, and production environments. Experience with performance monitoring, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting across application, database, integration, and infrastructure layers. Relevant testing certifications, such as ISTQB, and experience applying structured quality assurance methodologies. Desirable Certifications ISTQB CTAL-TAE – Test Automation Engineering.
