About this role
Description
Annapurna Labs is the team behind the custom silicon and systems at the heart of AWS (Amazon Web Services) infrastructure — we operate like a start-up with the scale of the world's largest cloud provider.
We're looking for System HW Lead Engineer to define, shape, and integrate cutting-edge solutions for next generation AWS cloud platforms.
As HW Lead Engineer, in the Nitro team, you will be responsible for defining Annapurna Labs’ Nitro card design, leading development and validation cycles, and bringing the product to healthy mass production.
You’ll provide leadership in new technologies, bringing them to large-scale deployment, in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience. We offer a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, where you’ll work with technical experts, senior leaders, covering multiple technologies. We are changing the industry, and looking for individuals who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
Key job responsibilities
- Define the architecture and design specifications of next generation K2 Nitro Cards.
- Own full product life cycle, engage with design partners and manufacturing sites to enable high-yield mass production.
- Lead the analysis and debugging of complex design, manufacturing, and integration challenges.
- Continuously design for process optimization to improve product quality, simplify workflows, and accelerate the Nitro card development lifecycle.
About the team
Our Nitro Cards ("K2") are present in each server deployed at AWS, continuously innovating across new technologies, new server platforms, and new cloud services.
Nitro Cards serves critical roles in the server control plane and data path — delivering better performance, greater stability, and higher availability to customers at a global scale.
We work closely with the Nitro Silicon and Nitro Firmware and Software teams across definition, development, and mass production to optimize product value and accelerate time-to-market.
We learn from large-scale production health data and feed those insights back to continuously improve our products and processes.
Our success depends on world-class designs and the ability to deliver them on time, at scale, and with the best possible value for our customers — handling massive scale and the rapid integration of emerging technologies.
Basic Qualifications
- B.Sc. in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
- 6+ years in Hardware or Board design experience.
- At least 3 years of experience leading hardware products through the entire lifecycle, from initial concept to high-volume mass production.
- Technical management experience, including risk analysis, prioritization and cross-teams communication and interaction.
- Experienced in managing hardware-software interfaces and implementing scalable production testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Design and lab experience with at least at one of the following interfaces: DDR, PCIe, Ethernet.
- Computer architecture knowledge, experience with server design or architecture (x86/ARM/ and ML/GPU clusters)
- Experience with operating systems, boot flows, networking, and remote debugging
- Experience with mass production and large scale manufacturing
