About this role
Privacy and AI Lawyer (3-5 PQE)
Birmingham | Leeds | Manchester | London
Exceptional by design. Help shape how a global law firm approaches privacy, data and AI.
We are looking for a Privacy and AI Lawyer with around 3-5 PQE to provide practical, commercially focused advice across the firm, working with colleagues in the General Counsel’s Office, business operations teams and client-facing lawyers around the world.
This is an opportunity to apply your privacy and AI expertise in a varied international role. You will help the firm navigate evolving legal and regulatory requirements, manage risk and turn complex issues into clear, workable guidance for stakeholders across different service lines and business units.
The opportunity
As part of our Privacy and Data Team, you will provide proactive legal support on privacy, data, artificial intelligence, confidentiality and non-personal data matters. You will work closely with the Associate General Counsel for Privacy and Data, other specialist lawyers and advisers, and colleagues across the firm’s international network.
At Pinsent Masons, your career is exceptional by design - intentionally shaped to support high performance, meaningful development and long-term progression.
What you'll do
Bring your commercial judgement and specialist knowledge to a role where your advice will have a visible impact, including:
- Supporting the firm in managing privacy, AI, data protection and client confidentiality risk in the UK and internationally
- Researching and advising on privacy, AI and data-related requirements affecting the firm, its functions and its business activities
- Providing privacy, AI and data input into client questionnaires and bids
- Carrying out Privacy Impact Assessments and other data protection or AI risk assessments
- Reviewing and advising on privacy, AI and data provisions in client terms, projects and procurement arrangements, including negotiating provisions with clients and suppliers
- Assisting with security incident assessments, remediation and breach notification
- Supporting audits of data protection and AI compliance, identifying risks and helping to drive remedial action
- Assisting with data subject rights requests, including subject access requests
- Drafting policies, guidance, privacy notices and contractual clauses, and delivering awareness sessions and in-depth training
- Responding to queries from across the business on privacy, AI, data and confidentiality matters
About the team
You will join a dedicated Privacy and Data Team led by an Associate General Counsel with more than 20 years' data protection experience and supported by specialist privacy, data and AI lawyers and advisers. The team primarily advises on data protection, while its remit increasingly includes AI and non-personal data issues affecting the firm.
The team sits within the wider General Counsel’s Office and works closely with business operations teams, client-facing lawyers, the Information Law community and data protection specialists across the firm’s international offices.
About you
You will bring solid experience of advising on privacy, AI and wider data issues in a commercial environment. You will also have:
- A law degree and current practising certificate
- An IAPP, ISEB or other relevant data protection qualification
- Experience of privacy and AI risk assessments, supplier documentation, data protection clauses, privacy notices, policies and marketing-related issues
- An awareness of upcoming regulatory developments across privacy, AI and data
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organisation, negotiation and influencing skills
- The judgement to handle confidential and sensitive issues while building trust and credibility at all levels
- The ability to take responsibility, work autonomously and manage competing priorities at pace
- A practical, creative approach to problem-solving and the resilience to perform effectively in a pressurised environment
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with different teams and lawyers across the firm
