Job Requisition ID: 95145

Location Designation:  Hybrid - 3 days per week

Role Overview:

When you join New York Life, you’re joining a company that values development, career growth, collaboration, innovation, and diversity & inclusion. To foster that innovation, New York Life is looking for a talented individual to join a new business unit focused on accelerating enterprise growth through new and differentiated offerings.

New York Life has formed a new Client Growth and Retention business team to accelerate enterprise growth by developing and operating programs that help access new pools of customers, as well as programs that deepen customer relationships/ retention.

The Senior Director - Market Strategy is responsible for developing and leading New York Life's growth strategy for key consumer segments, in support of the Foundational Business strategy. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Client Acquisition and Retention Programs this role identifies, evaluates, prioritizes, and develops strategies that enable sustainable growth across existing and emerging consumer segments.

Serving as the strategic leader for Client Growth & Retention (CG&R), this individual translates enterprise priorities into actionable strategies through close partnership with Agency, Field Experience, Marketing, Strategic Insights, and other enterprise stakeholders. Success is achieved by ensuring the appropriate strategies, operating plans, partnerships, resources, and performance measures are established to enable successful execution by the field.

This role serves as the bridge between enterprise strategy and implementation—developing consumer segment strategies that align with New York Life's broader business objectives while ensuring the organization is positioned to execute effectively and measure meaningful business outcomes.

What You'll Do:

· Translate enterprise strategy into actionable consumer segment strategies that support the Foundational Business strategy and enterprise growth objectives.

· Identify, prioritize, and qualify opportunities in key consumer segments through the integration of quantitative analysis (demographics, market trends, competitive intelligence, internal performance metrics, population growth, and market penetration) and qualitative insights (field feedback, customer behaviors, operational realities, and historical experience).

· Develop entry and expansion strategies for approved consumer segments.

· Establish strategic approaches for segment penetration, partnerships, access points, prospect engagement, and field enablement.

· Lead cross-functional strategy development through co-creation with Agency, Field Experience, Experience & Digital Marketing, Strategic Insights, and other enterprise stakeholders.

· Ensure market strategies are supported by appropriate implementation plans, operating models, partnerships, resources, and performance measures.

· Define meaningful success metrics that evaluate the effectiveness of segment strategies and enable continuous improvement.

· Provide strategic direction to Planning & Implementation, Prospecting Activation, and Content & Enablement resources to ensure successful execution.

· Monitor segment performance and continuously refine strategies based on business results, organizational priorities, and evolving segment opportunities.

· Communicate strategic recommendations, progress, and business insights to executive leadership.

· Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement across the Client Growth & Retention team.

Leadership Responsibilities

· Establish clear priorities, expectations, and accountability across the team.

· Create an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and professional development.

· Build strong working relationships across Agency, Field Experience, and enterprise partners through influence rather than organizational authority.

· Promote a culture of shared ownership and cross-functional partnership that supports successful business outcomes.

What You'll Bring:

Required Skills

- Exceptional strategic thinking and business acumen.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and executive communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence across organizations without direct authority.
- Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Ability to build trust, foster alignment, and create buy-in among diverse stakeholders.
- Experience developing enterprise or business-unit growth strategies.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to synthesize quantitative data and qualitative insights into strategic recommendations.
- Proven ability to translate executive vision into actionable business strategies.
- Strong organizational leadership and talent development experience.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives in complex organizations.
- Executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

Success Profile

The successful candidate is an enterprise-minded strategic leader who naturally moves between vision and execution. They understand New York Life's broader business objectives and develop consumer segment strategies that directly support enterprise priorities rather than operating independently of them.

They demonstrate a bias toward measurable business outcomes, using both quantitative and qualitative information to inform decisions while recognizing that not every decision can—or should—be made solely through data. They value partnership over hierarchy, leading through influence, collaboration, and co-creation across Client Growth & Retention, Agency, and Field Experience.

Success in this role is reflected by the quality of consumer segment strategies developed, the readiness of the organization to execute those strategies, the strength of cross-functional partnerships, the development of high-performing team members, and the measurable business outcomes enabled through the plans, resources, and operating models established by the Client Growth & Retention organization.
