About this role

About Power Health Colorado

Power Health Colorado is a growing, multidisciplinary healthcare organization specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, interventional pain management, physical therapy, chiropractic care, behavioral health, and the treatment of patients involved in workers' compensation and personal injury cases.

With multiple locations throughout the Denver metro area, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care while maintaining high standards of operational excellence, accountability, and financial performance.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly motivated Medical Biller to join our revenue cycle management team.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who understands medical billing beyond simply submitting claims. The ideal candidate knows how to investigate unpaid claims, resolve complex billing issues, identify reimbursement opportunities, and take ownership of accounts through final resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Billing & Revenue Cycle Management

- Manage the full medical billing cycle, including claim preparation, submission, payment posting, follow-up, and account resolution.
- Submit accurate and timely claims to commercial insurance carriers, workers' compensation payers, and other applicable payers.
- Review claims for accurate CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, authorization information, and documentation requirements.
- Identify and correct billing errors, rejected claims, and clearinghouse issues.
- Monitor outstanding accounts receivable and proactively pursue unpaid or underpaid claims.
- Ensure timely filing deadlines are met and minimize preventable write-offs.

Accounts Receivable & Collections

- Take ownership of assigned accounts and work them consistently through payment or appropriate resolution.
- Investigate denied, delayed, and underpaid claims and pursue reconsiderations, corrected claims, and appeals as necessary.
- Follow up directly with insurance carriers, adjusters, attorneys, and other responsible parties.
- Review aging reports and prioritize accounts based on collectability, payer requirements, and outstanding balances.
- Identify payment discrepancies, reimbursement trends, and opportunities to improve collections.
- Escalate unresolved payer issues with clear documentation and recommended next steps.

Workers' Compensation & Personal Injury Billing

- Process and follow up on Colorado workers' compensation claims in accordance with applicable payer and regulatory requirements.
- Understand workers' compensation fee schedules, authorization requirements, and reimbursement procedures.
- Coordinate with case management and clinical teams to resolve claim-related issues.
- Assist with personal injury account management, including billing statements, attorney requests, outstanding balances, and case-related financial documentation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of communications, billing activity, and payment status.

Reporting & Process Improvement

- Maintain accurate billing records and detailed account notes within the practice management system.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging, denial trends, collection performance, and outstanding balances.
- Identify recurring billing issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, case managers, and leadership to improve billing accuracy and reimbursement.
- Participate in ongoing revenue cycle improvement initiatives and help establish efficient, standardized billing workflows across locations.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years of hands-on medical billing and accounts receivable experience; 5+ years strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing unpaid claims, denials, appeals, and insurance follow-up.
- Strong understanding of CPT codes, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, modifiers, EOBs, ERAs, and insurance reimbursement processes.
- Experience working with insurance portals, clearinghouses, and electronic medical record/practice management systems.
- Ability to interpret payer responses, recognize reimbursement discrepancies, and resolve complicated accounts.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage a high volume of accounts.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet performance expectations.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience billing Colorado workers' compensation and personal injury claims.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW).
- Experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain management, physical therapy, chiropractic care, or other specialty practices.
- Familiarity with Colorado workers' compensation reimbursement schedules and payer-specific billing requirements.
- Experience with billing analytics, accounts receivable reporting, and revenue cycle performance indicators.
- CPC, CPB, or other relevant billing/coding certifications are a plus but not required.

What We're Looking For

Beyond technical experience, we are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of a strong revenue cycle to the success of a healthcare organization.

The right person will:

- Take ownership: Follow accounts through to resolution rather than simply documenting unsuccessful collection attempts.
- Be proactive: Identify problems, pursue solutions, and recognize when something needs to be escalated.
- Be accountable: Maintain organized accounts, meet deadlines, and consistently follow through.
- Be analytical: Recognize billing trends, uncover missed revenue, and help us improve reimbursement performance.
- Work as a team: Communicate effectively with colleagues and support the organization's overall goals.

What We Offer

- Competitive compensation based on experience.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits.
- PTO, paid holidays, and retirement benefits.
- Opportunity to grow within an expanding healthcare organization.
- Collaborative, supportive, and performance-focused work environment.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the financial and operational success of a growing multidisciplinary healthcare practice.
