About this role

Job Description

Own the web delivery layer that keeps Reuters’ content platform available, fast, and easy to configure for customers around the world. You will provision and maintain origin and CDN infrastructure, define the reliability targets that protect the platform, and automate the manual work that slows launches and incident response. This is a hands-on role at the center of how one of the world’s most trusted news organizations reaches billions of people every day.

Reuters employs over 2,700 journalists across nearly 200 locations and delivers real-time text, images, and video in more than 20 languages. You will report into the Software Engineering organization and work with internal engineering teams and external clients to coordinate launches, upgrades, and delivery timelines. Participation in a global, multi-timezone on-call rotation is part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

- Own origin and CDN provisioning for Reuters’ content platform, including site and domain hostnames, SSL enforcement, redirects, static and root files, and authentication headers, from initial setup through ongoing maintenance.
- Define and track SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for the platform’s delivery layer, and lead or contribute to blameless postmortems that drive follow-up actions to closure.
- Maintain infrastructure as code so provisioning and configuration stay repeatable, auditable, and ahead of traffic growth through capacity planning.
- Diagnose and resolve delivery issues affecting site availability and performance, using logs, metrics, and alerts as part of a global on-call rotation.
- Automate manual, repetitive delivery tasks and adopt AI-assisted tooling for log and alert triage, anomaly detection, and runbook generation to speed up diagnosis and reduce toil.
- Manage launch tickets and execute site upgrades, coordinating timelines with internal engineering teams and external clients.
- Build tooling that reduces time-to-launch and configuration errors across the content platform.

Required Qualifications

Education and experience

- 7+ years configuring highly scalable, customer-facing applications

Technical skills

- HTTP, caching, and CDNs for large-scale public sites
- Analyzing application and cloud performance using logs, metrics, and alerts
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- At least one server-side language: Python or Node.js
- Infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or CloudFormation

Core competencies

- Systems ownership: taking full responsibility for the reliability and performance of the systems you run
- Automation mindset: identifying repetitive work and building durable solutions to eliminate it
- Incident response: diagnosing production problems calmly and driving root-cause analysis to closure
- Cross-functional communication: conveying status and risk clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Problem-solving at scale: approaching delivery challenges for large, globally distributed audiences

Preferred Qualifications

Additional experience and technical skills

- Building and deploying web applications in the cloud, with AWS preferred
- Familiarity with Akamai or comparable CDN providers
- Experience in DevOps teams owning the full lifecycle of their services
- Comfort working across a global, multi-timezone team
